I'll be in DC, but the price is a bit steep for most of us on the trip. I've already given to the HHC this year -- $175 more is not really in the cards.
I understand the want and need to a fundraiser/swanky event. Just wish/hope there is something less formal and costly as well.

I don't think the cost is for fund raising purposes - i think the space and food really cost that much. I really can't afford the cost of going to the gala. I hope all those who can afford to go have a great time celebrating 100 years of Georgetown Basketball.

I'm sure part of that money goes to fundraising. And that's OK by me. I've helped plan events at very swanky hotels and dinners like that usually max out at about $80 a head, even with champagne, etc. The high prices are often to hone in on the set that can afford that sort of thing. Then they hit them up for even bigger bucks.
I don't care as long as it helps the University and Athletics program.

Then they hit them up for even bigger bucks. I don't care as long as it helps the University and Athletics program. The extra cost isn't for fundraising--the cost to rent the room, cater the meals/bar, and produce a multimedia event at a hotel like the Ritz Carlton is considerably more than $80 per person (Heck, the Leavey Center charges almost that much.) The University is apparently devoting some considerable resources to making this a first class event and while the admission cost is a little steep, the chance to bring together so many former players and assorted dignitaries under one roof should be something to see.

There are table/corporate sponsorships available at considerably higher cost as well.
While that sort of thing is far beyond my means, it is good to see the University/Athletic Department leveraging what should be a once in a Hoya lifetime event. One hopes that this will open some streams of future investment in the program.
Regarding cost, a nice touch is that past players/managers (my father being one) were offered discounted gala tickets and free game seats. I will be attending.

my donation went from 300 to 1000 this year...this event is just out of my league....im sure it will be a real fight to keep my seats for next year...i see another increase coming

I will be making the trip in from St Louis. Our table will include eight alums who have followed the program since the mid-1970's, one spouse and my freshman daughter.

Just curious, when did folks get the invites? Just moved from DC to Arlington, and got the save the date at my previous address. Changed my address with GU, but not sure if they shared that with HHC. For those who are wavering or planning to skip it, one word: GO.
I know $175 is steep, and it sounds like a lot of money. But scrape it together any way you can, and it will be money well spent. For a Hoya fan, this is as good as it gets.
It's a once-in-a-lifetime event. Believe me, I wish it were cheaper, but I'm pretty sure I'd come up with the money even if it were $300...

I'll be there no matter how much my bank account and student loan payments hate me for it (which figures to be a lot ). This is a once-in-a-lifetime event that every Georgetown basketball fan of all ages should be attending if they can find the means to do so--but I certainly understand if you can't. FWIW, I asked around the last time I went to a Hoop Club meeting, and I was told even with the rather steep ticket prices, it still won't come close to covering the cost of the Gala. GU's shelling out big time for the 100th anniversary. BTW, the GU-Marquette game itself that day is going to be pretty awesome. (I just started adding up in my head how much I'm spending on GU hoops this season, b/t the Gala, YA tickets, away game tickets, HB roadtrips, the NCAA Tournament if that works out...yikes!)

I'm really struggling with the price as well. I know it is the signature event, but $175 is really tough. I know they wanted to swank it up, but yikes.

I speak from direct fundraising experience when I tell you that events like this one ALMOST NEVER generate residual funds, after paying for venue, food, beverage, speakers' fees, sound technician, and more. and yes--my experience has been with GU, as well as other places--and NONE of those booked events anywhere NEAR AS NICE as the Ritz-Carlton.
