If Macklin and Summers are the future, I am really happy with the future. Games like this are great for building their confidence and letting them see BE play while resting Roy, Jeff, and JW for the future.

I thought it was interesting that Rivers seemed to get as many minutes alongside JWall as substituting for him. He still looked shaky at times to me, but definitely better. There was one particularly nice slash to the hoop.
Resting the starters makes a lot of sense. Roy looked really winded to me on one of those timeouts.
Interesting that the announcers thought that breaking the press was one of Georgetown's strengths coming into the game!

i want mack to get enough run and feel good about himself so he doesn't entertain any ideas of leaving gtown...i am not saying that is even in his head, but when you get a McD's as athletic and highly-touted as VMack, i would think these kids have certain expectations regarding PT...so, in that sense, I am ecstatic that he got more run last night than usual, and looked damn good in his time...
tangentially-related - we did look darn good in the few times that we outran the press/generally fast-breaked in last night's game...it makes me long for it more

Well, Seton Hall is probably gonna throw a ton of press at us tomorrow night, so when we break it, we'll have those opportunities.

To whomever seems so interested in me and keep saying negative and disrespectful things...I can't help if I love basketball and I love my Hoyas and I put a smile after some of my sentences...is that a problem because I'm happy about what I do and happy for my team? Wow...If you noticed you're the only person who says something about my "smiles" when I put behind some of my sentences...that is very insulting and very disrespectful of you to say those things...I didn't say anything to anyone negatively...I guess its called self disrespect because if you respect yourself you will respect others...go figure...

Random thoughts. Rutgers is as bad a Big East team as I can remember. Their outside shooting is awful. We played very sloppy, particularly early on. We should have taken them by at least 30. Rivers had a good game. Macklin's left hook was pure luck while his free-throws are Shaq-like or worse. If we ever find ourselves down the stretch in a game with Macklin, expect hack-a-Mack. We will have to play much better to beat Seton Hall at the Hall. Excellent game for Summers. Decent game for Sapp, mediocre for Jon and Jeff (or worse). But, a win is a win.

Rivers is playing because he knows the game...he is fundamentally sound...yes he's still young and needs work but he knows the game...

1. Rutgers sucks. 2. Love seeing Rivers take Marquis Webb with his left hand. 3. The frosh were great. I wouldn't worry about PT concerns -- Macklin was quoted many times as knowing who was in front of him, that he'd be mostly rebounding and D, etc. Still, it's fun to see him just abuse N'Diaye.

1) Rutgers is historically bad 2) Rivers still can't make an outside shot. It looks terrible and shaky. This scares me to no end in a more competitive game. 3) Summers is the best scorer on the team and he should be even more aggressive. Ticket was great too.
Nice to see the frosh playing well, but I still want Summers to be more aggresive and shoot more. His shot is silky and I'm to the point where I have more confidence in him than anyone else on the team shooting.

I disagree ed, we could have won by 30 if Roy, Jeff and Jon hadn't sat shortly after the half. Although Jeff was off in scoring, the defensive presense our Junior starters have is what put this game away before the half. We will need to play better to beat Seton Hall, but to me that means rely more on the starters, no reason for panick yet

Strangely, Macklin has had a much bigger impact on offense than on D or the boards, where he has been lackluster.

The hook didn't look like "pure luck" to me -- it looked like a move big men used to make ALL the time (source: ESPN Classic). It only looks odd because today almost all the hooks you see are jump hooks, not the classic hook shot. If that's something VM has worked on, good for him, because it's a shot that's almost impossible to block, and a really good weapon in the paint area that also keeps you from picking up a charge against floppers. Those FTs, though.... ugh.

Mapei, good observation. I heard that comment too and I thought they had seen us for the first time that night. One other thought on the Hall game, they may not be able to press us with a 6 man rotation and this being their 2nd game in 3 nights as well.
Mack definitely changes our line-up when he is in and it is a good change of pace. The unfortunate thing is we can't really play him with Roy at the same time right now but he is going to help us this year a lot.

This is the Rutgers post-game thread from last year. It came a little later than last year. The posts almost a year ago are pretty humorous - enjoyable is someone saying that JTIII can't beat the press. The best, however, is a comment that we win a game like Villanova (I think - or Pitt) with a cutthroat point guard. Also of interest is a thread that castigated GU for getting horribly outrebounded at the Pitt game.
Of particular note is GU playing sloppy and III defending it because they had another away game in a few days (this time it was Seton Hall).
So - short version. All will be well. Last year, the team had similar concerns and did fine. Frankie says relax.
