The last RU commercial I saw was the one with Mario Batali and James Gandolfini, I was flipping back and forth tonight though from the UNC slaughtering of Clemson.

Just got back from the game .... we could have easily won this by 30 pts ... but hey - a win is a win ... Rutgers is not that good and they Miss Q. Douby so bad it isn't even funny .... but at any rate .. 6,790 at the Rac - they just didn't have anything to cheer about .. Roy looked unstoppable and Summers looked smooth .. over-all - the rest of the team was ok(Mack looked good) ..GU did what they had to do to win .. BRING ON THE HALL ... I'll be there (Sec. 217 row-8 seat 9) ;D ....
ps .. I was actually sitting right behind the Rutgers bench tonight .. (sec. 115 row D seat 2) and was wondering when coach Hill was gonna actually COACH .. that team is a mess !

Coach Thompson said after tonight's game that he rested Wallace and other starters in the second half because there's another game so soon. If that means winning by 14 instead of 30 and the team is fresh(er) for Seton Hall, I'm all for it. - JS

Best part about the game was the aggressive attitude we showed - even JTIII was yelling at some players. The one exception was Jeff Green, who played really poorly once again. Rutgers is possibly the worst Big East team in the past 5 years.

Our guards have such control of the ball. These guys are amazing. What is this former coach talking about their entry passes are late. He does not know what he is talking about!!! And you are a breath of fresh air. I wait on your pearls of wisdom with baited breath. Keep on posting, sunshine. We all really think you're special.

Rutgers is possibly the worst Big East team in the past 5 years. Jeff didn't shoot well, but he was active. Eight shots and six assists in less than thirty minutes with two slow paced teams isn't bad. He took as many shots as anyone and had half out assists.

Tyler Crawford play 3 more minutes than Spann tonight, and less than Rivers, Macklin, and Ewing. This is a really suprising twist to the post-Egerson era. I have no idea why this is the case, because he has been effective - or at least efficient - in the few games he has played major minutes since the sickness.
Perhaps Tyler is the ultimate 'tweener on a team in need of guards. He has the body of a 2 or a small 3, but apparently has not shown JT III that he can really handle the basketball. That, combined with the fact that he is not as proficient on the boards as Ewing or Summers or Macklin, leaves him without a true position on this team - except as co-captain.

Tonight, to me, was a perfect reason for why Rivers is playing more minutes than Crawford.
This was easily his best game, even the duke game. He got to the basket off the dribble. He played good defense. He ran the offense very well, and along with Sapp, allowed for Jwall to be rested.
Rivers is playing because he has more upside. Plain and simple. Yes Crawford brings things to the table, but Rivers when he gets his confidence is clearly the better player. And he fills a need. He's a pure guard off the bench, and that's what this team needs. Guard depth. And if he has to be thrown to the fire to develop that kind of depth, it's plain that the staff feels that it's worth the hassle.
Tonight, though, Rivers played very well. He looked confident. I know it's Rutgers, but he still looked very good.
Also, Macklin played great. Not only on his post ups, but his ability to pass the ball. He truely passes it well for a man his size. And my goodness, can he run the floor. That fastbreak where he beat rutgers down the floor and dished to summers for the dunk had me screaming for joy at my television.
Summers and macklin are clearly future stars. And i think macklin's minutes are going to start to increase sooner rather than later

Didn't get the game here on TV, but it seems like it was about what was expected. I'm not surprised we were a little sloppy......playing to the competition is always a problem. However, we put them away early as we needed to, we rested most of our starters for the next game and our younger guys got some good experience and success to build off of. You can't ask for much more in a game like this. As HoyaFanNY said, this needs to be the start of a big run. Seton Hall, you are next on the list.......

Play of the game was Macklin's little left-handed hook. That should put to rest all the people wondering about his talents. The commentators put it best when they said that he had been thinking so much about the offense that he had slowed himself down in previous games and last night he clearly was comfortable and was moving at his own speed.

The 5 turnovers to start was troubling. Against a good team, we would have been down six or eight right out of the gates. Other then that, I felt this game was like our JMU, Towson, Navy games where the opponent is so bad you really have no idea how you played. Seton Hall will be tough and then we need to get two at home.
I can't believe Rutgers actually won a big east game.

The frosh:
10-15 from the floor 2-3 from 3 8-12 from the FT line 4 rebounds, one block 4 assists 1 turnover
I like it.
(On a related note, after finishing the OOC schedule with 4 assists and 29 turnovers, Dajuan has 7 assists and only 3 TOs in Big East play).

Rutgers is possibly the worst Big East team in the past 5 years. Yes and no. Jeff shot poorly, but I can't complain about 5 boards, 6 assists and 3 blocks -- those are all effort stats.

Rivers plays over Crawford because Tyler is not a ballhandler. That's it. Tyler basically played PF in HS, and he's never shown the ability to be a primary ballhandler. III has, since he's been here, preferred to have two good ballhandlers on the court and since we have only three this year, that's lots of minutes for Rivers.

Tough to draw a slew of helpful, forward-looking conclusions from this game. RU lacks the agile, penetrating guards (a la Pitt) that gives us fits on the defensive side. They also lack frontcourt size to challenge Hibbs and Green. I give RU credit for playing hard all game but they simply don't have the size, talent or depth to compete at this level.
I'm glad to see III getting Hibbs and Green some rest with SHU following so soon. Also, extra run for Macklin, Rivers is good. Every minute of BE game time these guys see now pays huge dividends come 'Nova 2/17, Pitt 2/24, 'Cuse 2/26, UConn 3/3, the BET and Tourny.
We need to start games sharper...
