The fact is, there were WAY too many Nova fans in Section 110 and other Hoop Club Sections. Which means that season ticket holders and donors to GU are selling their tickets to rival fans. A-holes. Use your tickets, or donate them back to GU so that Hoya fans get better seats. We're in the same section, Cam. You speak truth.

Cam: many of those may have been sold through StubHub - the official partner of GU where you can name your price but not your buyer. While I agree with your sentiment, I do not think you can force season ticket holders to not use the service especially when the Athletic Department is actively encouraging it.

I sit in Sec. 101 and I observed very few Nova fans -- maybe 4? Of course you can't force season ticket holders to not use Stubhub but as a voluntary matter, I never let my tix get into the hands of the opposing team's fans. I'd rather give mine to a GU student or someone wearing GU gear. It ain't about the $$$.

I just wish more people would take advantage of donating the tickets back to the ath. dept. so that at least the Hoop Club sections won't be invaded. Of course, people will rather have the money than the tax deduction....

I sit in 102 and I am 3 rows in front of a suite. I swear that the suite has belonged to opposing fans EVERY game. It is the most annoying situation I have ever endured. (okay, that is an exaggeration).
Someone might die on 2/12!

I have some tix I can't use to a couple of upcoming games in section 110. I'd much rather have them go to a board regular than to StubHub - do we have a ticket thread?

Mapei, you're a pretty sage observer and I enjoyed your take on things. I think the solution, if you're on the Georgetown side, is to get on your marketing dept to get with the program and work extra hard on building a fanbase. Don't want to wear out the welcome mat here, but... Building the fanbase thru marketing is the key part of this. A lot of it involves wagoneering, obviously. But what it appears Georgetown needs to do is create an attractive game day atmosphere that will pull in the casual fan, the Georgetown alumnus within 3-3 1/2 hours (NY area to the northeast, NJ/Philly/Baltimore/PA west to Pittsburgh, etc.) to buy a strip of tickets to at least the Hoyas weekend home games. I know folks have families, home responsibilities, and this can be much easier said than done. And maybe we've been kind of lucky in that respect, having a smallish, but still recognizable homecourt where demand for tickets is strong enough that we build a wait list and the Pavilion crowd + the wait list gives us a shot at a pre-sell of 10K or more in South Philly before we even start going after the other 10,000 seats. Since John Jr., Georgetown has had one of the richest basketball traditions in the country. I know G.U. is an academic powerhouse and of course, that type stuff comes first. But just as an outsider, I'd say the biggest need is an energy at home games, a game-day atmosphere that MAKES folks want to come to the games, and a strong anticipation of victory. That's what wins the ultimate bluechip recruits, and the fans as well. Good luck the rest of the way (except when you visit the Wach)...I like to see you guys do well. Go Cats! Good luck, Hoyas... b70

Thank you, Buckeye. Any board members interested in tix to Cincinnati or Marquette, please get in touch. I hate to miss the Marquette event but will be on the wrong side of the country for work. I hope there's a video record of the ceremony.

I echo the sentiments about opposing fans in the lower bowl ... but on the bright side, this year is SO much better than previous years.
As for the luxury boxes ... I sit in Section 121 and the box right behind our seats (we're at the top of the section) is ALWAYS filled with opposing fans. I figured it was owned by some corporation or firm catering to out of town clients -- that'll happen. At the ND game, some guy basically threatened us about standing up right at tip off, and last game a Nova fan brought his kids, who held up a "1985" sign throughout (he was pretty cool, though). Ugh.
The kicker was that one of the box's owners is a Gtown fan, and HE told us to sit down so that his Nova friends didn't have to stand to see! I was shocked. So shocked (and because I try to be a courteous guy) that I actually sat down for almost an entire game for the first time since I started going to games in 1998. Mr Box Owner, if you're a poster on this board, please get your priorities straight. The A-Team thanks you in advance.
Thanks for the msg Buckeye, great thoughts.

Good series of thoughts, guys.
I guess one possible longterm salvation may be to build a 9,000 seat pit on campus (again, of course, easier said then done, particularly in this cost-unfriendly era).
But maybe you could play most of your homies there and hit the Verizon 2-3 times a year for the perceived biggies and build a good-sized ticket base doing that.
Good luck the rest of the way.
Go Cats! (good luck, Hoyas)

B70:
The lower bowl at Verizon was essentially sold out to season ticket holders this year. I would call that a "good base." The issue of those holders selling their seats on the free market and said tickets ending up in the hands of opposing teams' supporters is one that will remain long-term when a college team plays in a 20K venue - selling that venue out with season tickets over the long-term is unrealistic. Keeping those season seats in Hoya supporters' hands is an issue that CAN be fixed.
The issue of an on-campus arena has been hashed out here endlessly and is seemingly not headed soon for resolution. No need to jump back into that discussion in this thread.
Your points on marketing are well taken. GU has not leveraged that effectively in the past. The new Athletic administration has been making great strides in that area and I expect more to come.
As for blue chip recruits, check the incoming classes scheduled to hit DC over the next couple of years. That issue is well in hand under JTIII.
