The press was effective because it did exactly what Wright wanted it to do: Slow the Princeton and not necessarily cause a turnover. Wright knew that our Princeton takes time to develop usually scoring in the third or fourth decade of the time clock. After 2 or 3 backdoor cuts clear out a side and we can find an open 3 point look. Or when the fourth cutter beats his man. In the ND game [aside from their weakness inside due to personnel &/or foul trouble] we had our most success feeding Roy when we softened up the inside with a few cutters continuing through. But the clear outs, inside or outside, take time. So shorten the clock and our Offensive efficiency destroyed. He also knew that given pressure and forced to act at an uncharacteristic speed we would cause our own turnovers. The Nova press did exactly what it was supposed to do. vagrant Best post I've seen thus far Vagrant, and very accurate. They wanted to get us starting our offense with only 20-25 seconds on the clock, and we looked horrible thereafter. In the first half we made up for it by rebounding a lot of misses but in the second we stopped rebounding. Nova has great team speed, they did not play well but they played with desperation. We played like we could afford to lose- and that was the difference. I want us to play them again and beat them by 10 on their home court. Provided JTIII can figure out how to defeat a trap.

Coaches will come up with a new press break. Go to a 3-guard lineup, get Green out of the backcourt, put him in position to score after the press break.
Roy was not able to get good position down low. Nova had the kinds of post defenders who give him the most trouble by denying the ball. He seemed to work for position too late, after the wing defender was harrassing the ball.
This was a lot like the Oregon game. Quick ball-hog guards who played out of control, took a ton of bad shots, but eventually made a couple. Even with all the turnovers, if one more guy was on, Georgetown wins by 8.

One non-game observation that I'd like to address:
Kudos to the students who made the trip back to school early (even though they didn't have to) in order to make it to the game. There were several posters (myself included) who were apprehensive prior to the game last night about attendance for the game. I imagine it was hard to stay amped during the turnover fest and bricklayer's competition that was last night's game, but the crowd got pretty loud in some key moments (which was great), and I have to admit I was pretty psyched about seeing the sea of gray during Nova foul shots. Also, big ups to the administration for allowing it to happen. Students, keep up the good work, as our home schedule in-conference is pretty rough this year, and we're going to need you!

I have nothing to offer. Did not see the game and could not stand to be in the chatroom for very long after I realized that Nova was making a game of it. Since 1985 I tend to cringe when we play them. Sleep is much better when we win. The only good thing about this game is that I hope it makes us a better team and we can use the experience last night down the road. Let's go out and beat Pitt now!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the better moments in the game was during the second half shoot around, when the dude chearleader, in a blaze of flag-waiving glory, nearly knocked over Nardi. The look on Nardi's face was priceless, and there was nothing he could to about it. I think this is what took him off his game tonight. Keep up the good work, dude chearleader.

I was still in the concourse, so I missed that moment. Didn't the original Flag Man employ a similar tactic last year, nearly flattening Coach K at one point?

To add insult to injury, section 110 was FULL of vociferous Villanova fans. What the hell? My SO and I were surrounded in row P - two to our immediate right, four to our immediate left, and two right behind us, one of whom clearly had a testosterone imbalance. It was humiliating. My worst Hoya fan experience since I bought season tickets last year. Only thing I can tell you, mapei, is we travel very well, like the 'Cuse, UConn, West Va. and a couple others in the league. With the job J.T.3 has done with your team, resurrecting the program, you folks should have responded strongly with a big season-ticket surge. Villanova fans have sold out the Wachovia Center for the season this year (unless you include a few straggling single-seat tickets for a couple of games)...over 20,000 for all five games. Your school spirit may need a little bit of a re-charge. Just an outsider's view, but Villanova's crowd presence, if I'm a Hoyas fan, was painfully obvious. Go Cats! (good luck to your team...) b70

1. actually, he was a jerk about it
2. he is not correct
--as i understood it, gu did have quite a season ticket surge.
--Nova has a lot of pent-up demand for those 3-5 games at the Wach... as the 6,500 seat sold-out ski lodge makes it tough for the average philly fan to see a big east game

I know I'll be there, and I'll bet he'll be able to hear me yelling as the Hoyas exact revenge for Monday's loss.

Ah, the quarrelsome, irascible world of WildHoyadom. What to do with you?
I write, gently, the truth.
Wildhoya, try not acting like a EDITED and actually conducting a civil conversation. You embarrass yourself and your forum. Silly me: I always thought these things were about dialogging and not actiing like a EDITED 1. How was I a jerk? 2. How am I wrong?
Quite a season-ticket surge? How many does the Verizon hold -- 20,000? Against a team that many of you seem very much at home venting your spleens about (voila: a rivalry), you draw 11,800. Nobody likes or respects the history or nature of the Villanova-Georgetown rivalry more than I do. I value our games against you and respect your program immensely, not to mention your players and coach.
I know: You can argue with some merit that tudents were away. I can respect that point of view, but that brings, what, maybe another 3,000? You still have 5,000+ unoccupied seats to explain.
The "pent-up demand" at Wachovia Center comes from two sources, simply...
1. People who can't get tickets at the Pavilion 2. As you correctly point out, Philadelphians who support the team and want to see us play.
TBird: You write "And there's going to be a sizable Gtown continget there for the rematch from what I hear."
TBird, love your school loyalty, but I hereby invite you to the many available YouTube.com shots of 'Nova games at the Wach last year -- where the season-ticket base was a tad smaller. We played three attractive programs -- Louisville, Syracuse and UConn there.
And the place was virtually ALL OURS. Trust me, there will be only a few Georgetown fans there. Tickets simply aren't available. It's the old blood-from-the-stone effect. We sold out your game within a couple of days, and it a RESTRICTED sale, not a come-one/come-all deal. It wasn't always the case. When the 'Cuse played us there the year before, they had at least 20% of the crowd, thanks to a ton of buses from Scranton, PA, Gerry Mac's hometown, and bunch of Warrick's buds and maybe 1,000 actual Syracuse alums. UConn also brought a large contingent the year before.
But we started winning and the entire dynamic changed.
Those are the facts. You'll probably have about five hundred fans there -- hell, I have no problem with that, but let's just say you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt who the home team is.
Check the many crowd reactions on the YouTube.com videos -- there were several instances of opposing baskets, including a spectacular dunk by UConn's Hilton Armstrong and a big bucket by Roberts of Syracuse. Dead silence.
That's the new environment. If that's being a jerk, so be it. Actually, I am simply dealing in fact and trying to cite the difference between now and then.
Good luck to your team -- enjoy the John Thompson III renaissance. You have a lot going on and I am sure before long you'll get a deserved spot in the rankings. It was no accident with your talent and coaching that you got such good pre-season hype.
Peace...

The fact is, there were WAY too many Nova fans in Section 110 and other Hoop Club Sections. Which means that season ticket holders and donors to GU are selling their tickets to rival fans.
DELETED. Use your tickets, or donate them back to GU so that Hoya fans get better seats.

757...you're right I am a coach...but I also know and love my team and if I'm disappointment in the team play that isn't so be it...you don't have to call no one out and call them "bitches"...you could of your point across and said stop crying...if I call you that we just go back and forth for no reason and don't call people names behind their back (childish)...kb
