sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1790436SportsTicker POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Former Saint Joseph's assistant Matt Brady on Monday was named men's basketball coach at Marist.
Brady agreed to a four-year contract and replaced Dave Magarity, who stepped down as coach after 18 seasons.
The 38-year-old New Jersey native spent 11 years as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph's, helping the Hawks to four NCAA Tournament appearances, three NIT berths, four Big 5 championships and three Atlantic 10 titles.
With help from Brady, Saint Joseph's went 27-0 during the regular season in 2003-04, finished a school-best 30-2 overall, earned the No. 1 national ranking and a top seed in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and reached the regional finals.
"I am happy to have a coach of his talent and background join our staff and I look forward to Matt's leadership as we continue to build our basketball tradition," Marist director of athletics Tim Murray said.
Brady, who recruited and signed 2004 National Player of the Year Jameer Nelson, was a standout at Siena College - Marist's chief rival in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He has 17 years of coaching experience, with stints at Rhode Island and Wagner.
Marist went 6-22 this past season, placing ninth in the MAAC conference and losing in the first round of the conference tournament to Siena.

A buddy of mine who went to St. Joe's was try to sell me on the idea that Brady would be a perfect fit for the G'town job, but I think this is a good move for a first-time head coach.
