Saw a blurb that Ohio State will have non-con games with UNC, Kansas and Florida (the other three number 1 seeds in Lunardi's insanely early bracketology), as well as Tennessee and Cincy. Definitely throwing Oden and the other freshmen right into the fire.

Good gracious-- perhaps biting off a bit too much.

Gotta believe that Matta wants to get this team on television as often as possible. Given that Oden is the quintessential one-and-done, these games will serve as the basis for his recruiting for the next few years.
Plus, I don't think the Big Ten will be as tough next year, so he must have confidence that a few highly regarded OOC losses won't hurt much. Playing so many freshmen come tourney time means that he has to test them now.

Definitely throwing Oden and the other freshmen right into the fire. That was one of the articles in yesterday's paper. Apparently Florida's policy isn't to reveal the schedule until it is finalized entirely, usually around August. But "unnamed sources" have confirmed a Florida-Ohio St. game on Saturday, December 23rd, with a return contest in Columbus in 2007. I hope we can play some more competitive teams in the pre-conference schedule as well. I think our weak schedule early led to our slump in the middle of the season where we lost 6 of 10 games. We are also slated to play Kansas in Las Vegas in the finals of a tourny if we both advance that far. In any case though, you are right about Motta. That is one hell of a pre-conference schedule with Florida, UNC, Kansas, Tennessee and Cincy. Kudos to him for taking that step. I honestly think that LSU grew up a lot last season in losing early. At one point they had a losing record of something like 4-6 because they had played the likes of UConn and Ohio St.

It's a good idea.
It gets all those superstars experience for a run later.
And if they all can't play together it'll keep some of them around who otherwise might have tried to jump because everyone now knows them aren't as great as some thought.

I'm still hoping for a Roy vs Oden battle of the titans game next year. That would be hyped up no end in the media, and just be an awesome game to watch in my opinion.
A Florida rematch is my second hope.

Last year, I thought we should have been more ambitious with our OOC schedule, with such a veteran team returning.
This year, I'm not so sure. Until we get the backcourt rotation finalized, we'll be better off with a few games like James Madison, etc.

I totally agree, doogie. Given that we lose three of our top six players, I really feel that although this team could be very good, it will need some time to work things out. Relatively easy games are great for that.
I would love to see games in which guys like Crawford, Egerson, Thorton, Spann, and Rivers can be very aggressive, and even if they have a poor showing, we will still we in great shape to win. Moreover, these games can be great confidence boosters for developing players. Often you need to score fifteen against JMU before you score fifteen versus SJU.

I stand by my opinion that the Big 10 is totally overrated with regards to hoops. Maybe this Oden guy can elavate the Buckeyes to the level of the SEC or Big East ... but until I see it the "Big" Ten is a misnomer.

In other scheduling news, everyone's favorite Hoya opponent Dook and media darling Gonzaga will be playing each other in MSG next December. It will be awesome passing both of those programs in the polls next year, but you can be sure that they will be ranked ahead of the Hoyas in the preseason, after all sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2441421

who will the zags have next year??wow kinda year late for this 1 The "Zags" ... sounds familiar ... oh yeah, wasn't that the team with its All-Time living legend crying with 5 seconds left in the game only down one possession? ... or was it that team with its marquee player face down on the floor balling, kicking his feet in some sort of emotional temper tantrum ... I forget ... either way though they are a media darling for some unknown reason. This just in: the media better get another darling ... this one has run its course.

I love the Zags. They play great basketball, and their fans are classy, intelligent people. Their marquee player may have cried, but at least he wasn't a complete ass when he visited the White House. For my money, Morrison > Noah, for all time.

For my money, Morrison > Noah, for all time. Honestly, I don't know much about their fans. I have never met any adamant Zags that I know of. And maybe I was a bit critical for one emotional outburst. And for the record it's ok to cry. That being said, if you are one of the elite 2 players in America, I think you have to have enough in your heart and between the ears to not start weeping with 5 seconds still on the clock and trailing by one possession. I think that paints the wrong picture. Secondly, crying after a tough loss is not the problem. Sprawling out at center court and making a spectacle out of yourself is. The Bruins were literally having to hop over him to avoid trampling him. As to Noah at the White House ... no comment. As to the TEAM at the White House ... Go Gators!

Are you thinking of David Stockman? Wasn't he director of OMB under Reagan? He's certainly more famous than Adam Morrison!
And so is that other guy who used to wear the short shorts.
