I'm still very skeptical about the Ronny aspect. I'll never know for certain what went down with Ronny and Craig, but I wonder if Ronny really acted the way an assistant is supposed to. I have no problem with Ronny coming back. He seemed to do a good job on recruiting and judging by Sweetney's responses, had a good connection with players. The only thing I don't want to see is the practice of Georgetown recruits transferring High Schools to friendlier coaches. I'm not sure if that was Craig's or Ronny's idea, but that never worked out well at all.

come on, people - Ronny Thompson adds nothing to the rebuilding that most of us seem to think is coming.
if Burke can get recruiting turned around asap, then get him here now but I must have missed all the big-time recruits Princeton has been pulling in over the last couple of year.
I would like Jaren to stay but as several posts have already said, this is JT3's job and he's got to have full control over coaching staff and everything else player-related.

To change gears a bit, what about changes in non-coaching aspects of the program? ... i.e. Is Bill Shapland going to continue his reign of incompetence over the SID? There's a "family" guy that needs to go if ever there was one.

Having RT come back to the Hilltop would simply be shameful; we're better off with him nowhere near our campus.

Being an old friend of RT's I have no shame in saying it would be in his best interest to stay put in Arkansas.
If I know Ronnie there is no way he would come back and play under his brother. As they are as close as kin can be, there is also a competative nature in him that wont allow him to be 2nd best in the family and look for him to make his mark in the game away from the hilltop.

Why the hate of RT? From what I could tell, he recruited pretty well while at G-Town. Can you really blame him for jumping ship on Esherick? I didn't buy season tickets this year b/c of Esherick, does that mean that I'm not welcome back at the MCI Center?
Ronny is a young guy who's coaching career is pretty much in front of him, not behind him. I'm sure being an Esherick assistant did not really help him too much during interviews for head coaching jobs. But, I'm sure he'll have other opportunities in the future.
When did we learn that Ronny can't coach X's and O's? How do we know that?
The guy could help his brother recruit. I'd welcome him back. However, I would think working for your older brother would be a little akward.

He and Esh did not see eye to eye. As for recruiting, I do not think he was a great recruiter. Townes would have helped this past year, but he could not qualify. We all know the Thomas story. Bethel and Hall are far from great recruits in my eyes. He has the whole Stu Vetter connection. He did not recruit Sweetney, he ran with him. I find it odd how some can blame Esh for everything, and completely forget that RT was on the bench for a lot of the mess ups. The assistants jobs are to count players and issues like that. Anyway, I hope he does not come back. I think he has a better shot moving up in this coaching workd if he is not at GU.

I heard that Ronny's biggest problem was Harvey Thomas. Appearently, when Harvey was being recruited, numerous people approached GU and voiced the sentiment that Harvey was not GU material. In response, Ronny stated that he had not heard negative things about Harvey and stood behind his recruit. Harvey signed and went on to be forced out of GU after having disciplinary problems. It turns out that Ronny may have heard some of the negative things about Harvey during the recruitment process. He not only chose to ignore these warnings, but also hid them from Esherick and others. When everything hit the fan, Ronny did not apologize, and really alienated a lot of people in the athletic department. It is no secret that many were happy to see him go.
I make no bones that my info is third or fourth hand through the grapevine (not any message boards). Maybe this is all totally wrong. Nonetheless, SOMETHING happened between Ronny and Esh. I don't accept the "Esh the tyrant who ruined everything" line; Ronny seems to have done some things that contributed to his own departure. If anyone has info into what went down, I would be interested.

Yes, many big-time recruits go for that no-scholarship thing. Princeton has successfully recruited many scholarship-level players to a non-scholarship school. No, it isn't the same thing, but it is something.

Its very likely that Robert Burke will be brought on as an assistant. This morning a friend of mine went up to JT III in the dining hall and talked to him for a few minutes. Apparently Burke was also at the table JT III was sitting at and Thompson even mentioned that Burke was a possible assistant. I think he would be a good choice as an assistant. I especially like his experience under Paul Hewitt at Siena and the fact that he is supposedly a good recruiter. goprincetontigers.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/burke_robert00.html

I know this is just our honeymoon and everything, but I like that he was in the dining hall and willing to talk to students.
I know it should be expected ... but we can at least acknowledge it's better than the alternative.

2007, thanks for the info and links concerning Burke. This guy sounds like a definite plus and would appear to be a great get for the program. I'll overlook the fact that he and JT3 went to Gonzaga though.

Has anyone seen or heard a timetable as far as hiring assistants and re-hiring/replacing the personnel in the basketball office?
Granted this is a prime recruiting period (which is of utmost importance), but I think it would be prudent to get everything formalized with the personnel sooner rather than later, especially when it would benefit recruiting to have more eyes at these AAU tournaments.
I am pretty sure (just a hunch) that Burke will come down to serve on JT3's staff. It looks like RT is going to stay put, which is fine. That leaves many other hole to fill, not the least of which are two assistant coaching positions, a strength coach, and a director of operations.
Any names floating out there in rumor land?

JTIII was in the dining hall? I never, I repeat NEVER saw Esh in the dining hall, and this was during his early "honeymoon period".
Man this is exciting.

That's probably because Esh was a student at GU and knew how bad the dining hall food could be! JTIII has to learn the hard way!

Apparently Jaren and Chuck spent some time in the dining hall early last semester as well. I think it's like "Look at this new thing, let's check it out", and then it turned into "Oh, it's that old place...let's go to Wisey's". I'm sure that, come September, John and Rob will not be spending much time in the cafeteria, save a recruit visit or two.
