I'll take it. Nice work by Roy and Sapp, and key FTs by Cook.
Man UNI shooting made us look like like silk. Horrible.

Major props to Big Roy and the Seniors, who showed all the doubters they could pull one out.
NIU was a tough out, despite what RDF would have you believe. Stout was exactly that in the middle - Len Elmore was on target about what they weren't calling.
Also, a shout out to Coach Burke for his 3/17 matching shirt and tie.

Aaaaaaaaaand ... EXHALE.
Survive and advance. Great game by Roy, and clutch FT shooting from the senior guard.

Whew! Great freakin' outlet pass to Bobo in crunch time. Also liked the coaching down the stretch in the last minute. Hoyas let the man drive the hoop with 10 seconds left to go, knew that UNI would press on the in-bounds pass and sent our man to leak out quickly for a long pass down the floor. That caught them completely off guard. Great call to have the guys prepared for that play to ice the game.

If you guys really think GU can beat Northern Iowa, you are nuts. It's because they should and have the tools to do so, is why they will lose. It's half time but it might as well be end-of-game-time. The party is over. C'ya next year!!!! Dan McQ -- ban this edited from the board.

If you recall, his first gloom and doom posts were right before the Hoyas beat Duke and went on their big midseason run.

A few things to dispute UNI as a team 1. Unlike many on this site--you included I've watched these guys play--and they can't do a damn thing off the dribble--did you notice how many points they scored in 2nd Half and how terrible they looked? 2. You are going to get calls against you or no calls--it's part of CBB and why the "underdog" is "Cute". It's why I HATE all underdog teams--definition being Mid Majors. I don't consider Major Conference teams being "underdogs". 3. UNI does what well offensively? They use Stoudt/Coleman to screen illegally and only shot they hit was when Little was open from illegal picks in front of their bench. This game played in regular season results in Hoyas by at least 15 due to fouls being called and fact UNI can't do anything off dribble. 4. Wake me up when this team wins a game that is impressive--they beat Iowa--well so did Northwestern and Northwestern STATE!! 5. I've seen their players in HS---Coleman, Crawford, Brown are all from Twin Cities Metro and are good Mid Major players and non factors against real teams. 6. Did my scouting report/evaluation not prove to be true?? How can I be wrong when everything I said about their team prior and during the game ended up true?

How can I be wrong when everything I said about their team prior and during the game ended up true? RDF: once again, take a deep breath and don't take everything so seriously. I did not say you were wrong. I agree with you that the NIU big guys were ultra physical inside, likely to make up for talent gap. However, you are constantly advocating aggressive play and NIU gave that. My point was simply that these guys were tougher than the Little Sisters of the Poor equivalent that you were making them out to be. Yeesh!

Nice game by the Hoyas. Best of luck the rest of the way. I'm sure my comments will be taken the wrong way but here they are regardless.
Hibbert is going to be a force with more experience. He's got some good moves but still looks a bit raw. He'll be fun to watch over the next few years.
I’m sure you won’t care for a UNI fan’s opinion but here it is anyway. I don’t see this team going much further in the Tournament. Without Hibbert G-town doesn't look that impressive. I don't recall whether Ohio State has a big man to challenge Hibbert but if they can contain him Ohio State blows out G-town. Even without an answer to Hibbert this inferior UNI team in many of your eyes beats the Hoyas going away if UNI can hit anything in the second half. It wasn't G-town defense either; UNI had open shots but just failed to hit them in the second half.
Green sure looked like a jerk today. After being fouled and going down in the first half one of the UNI players offered him help up and he swatted the hand away and stared the guy down. Later in the second half he had to be stopped from going after the same guy, Stout I believe, after they got tangled up. For being the Hoyas' best player by some fan accounts he didn't look that good to me. Maybe he was just frustrated or that's the way he motivates himself but for this observer it's a poor reflection on the team.

Thanks for that insightful post, pantherswin! Do you provide such wisdom to each team that beats you in the NCAA 1st round?

FYI - Jeff Green is one of the least demonstrative players in college basketball today. I think if you watch the game again closely you'll see Mr. Stout elbowing, shoving, and generally pounding him the whole game. Just because the refs don't call it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Of course your observations are through purple-colored glasses and mine through blue and gray, but Stout was guilty of at least as much as you think Green was. I'll allow Jeff some frustration and give Mr. Stout the benefit of the doubt for trying his best.

Ewwwww Our first sore loser post.
Yeah, Jeff didn't look that good to you. That's why you're not makeing NBA draft picks. How many projected first rounds are coming out of your community college ? heh

You are right pantherswin, we really don't care for the UNI opinion. But, I have to represent my boys.
As for our boys Roy and Jeff, Roy does have a tough match-up with Dials, but it's not like the Big East does not have any good big men for him to go up against.
As for Jeff, maybe if you took a beating for 40 minutes without the refs calling anything, you might be a little testy too.
RDF, I now defer to you....

I am going to let others answer pantherswin, especially about Jeff, since I did not see the game or hear it. I was in a meeting during most of the 2nd half, and I second some of the posters in this thread about the game and Hoyas playing havoc with my health - I was practically hyperventilating, seeing the Hoyas down at half. Major relief to see the final score. The first game in the NCAA tournament is usually atypical of the way a team could really play. Let's hope we come out against OSU with all our guns firing.
GO HOYAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
