I like Majerus's commentary. I find it insightful. But its long-winded. His pychoanalysis of basketball is better suited for Halftime at ESPN and post-game analysis, not calling the game. I don't know how many times during the game, he starts to analyze what is going on, and before he finishes his thought, the ball changes possession and then its too late. Did anybody else notice that? It happened a lot at the beginning of the game. It seemed like he tried to talk faster so he could finish his points later on, but it was still too long-winded.

I'd rather have him than most other ESPN goons, Raftery/Bilas being the obvious exception. The effort to analyze is there instead of distracting from the game, and that's better than the Patricks and Vitales of the network. What annoyed me were his comments about OAF-FENSE.

Majerus SUCKS. Plain and simple. He doesn't know anyone's name, and his commentary is no more "insightful" than my little sister could be. And she hates basketball. How insightful could he be if, by your own admission, he never finishes a thought? The guy should give it up and head back to the studio where everything is scripted for him, and he can avoid tripping over his own words Don Vito style.

Anyone hear where he was talking about Wallace being from Harvest, ALASKA? And then, he made some comment about drilling oil up there. Too bad Harvest, AL on your program means ALABAMA, you idiot.
Another brainless comment was when he said something to the effect of "math is stupid in general." Too bad our entire society, from the objects we use in our daily life to economics to whatever, are all governed by mathematic principles. Use your head next time before you speak, Fatty.

yes, I heard the "math is stupid" comment... which came along with the comments about the Miss. Valley COnference and their RPI's.
1) Why the hell is the Missouri Valley Conference and their # of bids coming up during play in a big east game (mind you, I love to hate on the MVC and their rediculous hype, but at the same time, totally not appropriate/relevant for the middle of a game not related in any way, shape, or form to them) 2) He then followed on by rambling on about Ball State. I had no clue what the heck he was talking about, so that on top of just the poor quailty of play had me flipping in and out of the game. I swear, one day during a broadcast he's going to have a heart attack a la Chris Farley in the "da bears" sketch from SNL.

I hate ESPN--minus Raferty, Dan Schulman, and Bilas. REst of the entire Network can go to hell as far as i'm concerned. Just show games and maybe if they didn't analyze every game as if it were the Final 4 at Halftime or the "State of CBB" as they see it--we'd have more enjoyable games/seasons to follow.
As previous poster said--who gives a rip about Missouri Valley while we're watching a Big East game? If they play on Saturday and people want to watch--they will. I laugh at the "Bracket Buster" Saturday because 1/2 of those teams will do something and rest will either get drilled or lose close and act like idiots during game as if they were screwed over and not that they really are no threat to Final 4 or Championship.
As for Majerus--he's a terrible announcer and has no charisma. People have said he's funny and "entertaining" so everyone agrees and in fact he's boring--long winded for a game analyst, and often doesn't have a clue as to what point he's making.
Dave O'Brien aka Yankee Hater is terrible in all sports. It's fine he hates the Yankees but this guy is just a bad announcer--period.
For the poster in one of the threads who mentioned "Women's Bracketologist" I have one reply--I only have one focus when I hear "women" and "ologist" and that is my dream job as PERSONAL GYNOCHOLOGIST to the PLAYBOY MANSION. Outside of that--I'm deaf and if this is true--that has to be some highly fun stuff--you can pencil in 3 of the 4 teams to Final 4 every year and then 1 of other top 8 make it--and that's a whole lot of missed layups, turnovers, terrible basketball to watch/follow.
BTW--OFF--is not pronounced "OAF" so how do you get O-FENCE out of OFFENSE?? I'd say MAth isn't only thing that guy wasn't "into".
His partner O'Brien the Yankee Hater is one who messed up the Wallace hometown--and what makes it worse is that O'Brien did the game against SJU last week. He also called Jeff Green "Chapman".
And last but not least--how nobody brought up how Hoyas struggles occurred when Jeff went to bench with 2 fouls was just poor--he's a primetime player and if people think that performance against Duke was a fluke--he'd outplay Shelden Williams any/everytime they matched up--he's just a better player which will be proven at next level--but he's not respected enough--this game withstanding. He runs our offense and is focal point of it.
Then again--Hubert Davis is too busy joyriding in Ferris Bueller's car or hanging out with Fat Sam from Fletch to analyze a thing. Thank God Brad Daugherty is nowhere to be found--he always sounded like a woman who had a sex change.
I need Hoyas to win--the venom is returning and too many RANTS lately--time to get back to being "happy" again.

it was the play by play guy that said wallace was from alaska, not majerus. say what you want about majerus, at least he was smart enough to see the ineptitude on offense. our 5 on the floor were blind to it.

I found Majerus' comments as valid but the presentation was a little uncomfortable--today's analysts tend to speak in sound bites and Majerus (as does Pete Gillen on the A-10 broadcasts) talks a little too much for the time allowed.

I liked Majerus. Yes he's somewhat long winded, has an incredible midwestern accent, needs more preparation on knowing the roster, and butchered the Wallace home state comments. But I thought his insight and comments were much more insightful than the rest of CBS/ABC/ESPN guys. He talked X and 0 s (minus the MVC RPI topic) like a coach yet attempted to make it applicable to the common fan.
No way vitale or packer tells us about the changing defenses or illustrate Roy being open on shots.

Majerus stinks. Plain and simple. He doesn't know anyone's name, Yeah, that Chapman kid was all over the floor for the Hoyas last night.

I think they should let him announce ... definitely will provide some great Kiner-esque moments (i.e ... It's father's day, so to all you fathers out there - happy birthday!)
Seriously, though, he is bad.
And fat.

Didn't Majerus call DJ Owens, Bowman last night. Even on the replay which it was clear as day it was Owens who made the shot, and Majerus kept saying Bowman. Then his partner was like "check that, it was Owens". Then Majerus said, "Oaaah, it was Owens?". lol!!

while majerus isn't great with the details of the playes, he is astute about calling the game. when the hoyas went zone, he said the hoyas better watch novak. novak hits a 3. he was good at breaking down the high, outside post pass to roy. i could care less if he thinks wallace is from alaska. he brings insight to the game and that is all i expect out of an announcer.

I like Majerus for the simple reason that we need more fat commentators. Just huge, unhealthy, hot dog eating guys with asses the size of New Mexico. Besides, what can be more entertaining than wondering if Rick's gonna go down with a heart attack in the waning moments of a close game? Chris Farley and "Da Bears" sketch was exactly what I was thinking, burghoya, haha.
Harvest, Alaska? That's pretty embarassing. But at least he makes up for it with quips like "I'm not a big Gay guy" and the like.

I thought Majerus' line about the kid having "a better chance of dating Paris Hilton" was pretty funny. He knows his stuff, had some good insights for us... sometimes as simple as "fake the pass, get the zone defense reacting, then pass it in to the big guy".
Yes... the comment about Alaska was dumb... his partner (O'Brien?) started it.
Majerus could make his points more quickly/briefer, but that comes with experience.
OVerall, I enjoyed listening to Majerus.
As for Raftery, I enjoy him too. He always compliments both JTs and our Hoyas. He's funny. And he's pleasant... doesn't condescend to the viewers.
Vitale... I will turn off a game because of him.

I didn't like how he kept saying that Marquette would lock up a bid if they won last night. Premature, to say the least.
Generally, I like him -- his eye for detail is refreshing. Most color guys are lazy (if I hear "Princeton on steroids" one more time . . .). As ex-coaches go, he's better than:
Bob Wenzel -- Bucky Waters clone George Raveling -- ugh Bones McKinney -- Foghorn Leghorn Bucky Waters -- a turd Steve Lavin -- better on the desk Matt Doherty -- forgot that the Ewing era ended 20 years ago Dick Vitale -- okay, he's easy to pick on, but his game analysis never changes

Majerus looks HUGER THAN EVER by the way. I walked right behind him a couple of times and it was clear it would be difficult for him to stand up. I can't see him pacing sidelines anymore.
His partner, Dave O'Brien, isn't exactly slim himself these days. He really should stick to baseball.
What's the deal? Too much to ask McDonough or somebody who regularly does Big East games to fly to the Upper Midwest? Disappointing.

Okay, Sean McDonough should never do another game again. Total Syracuse homer, and he seems to get all of their games against us that I've seen on TV. The only comments I have on Majerus are that first, he seemed like he gave some insightful comments, from what I could hear (I was in Village C with the Hoya Blue people...no wait, most of them went elsewhere ). One instance is when coming back from a break, he drew a diagram of where the best passes to Hibbert were going - high and to the bottom corner of the backboard, where only he could get them. One girl nearby says, "What is he drawing?" Close the mouth, turn off the cell phone, and open the ears and you might learn something. My other comment is that during the pre-game introductions, he looked absolutely TERRIFIED. Don't know what of. Maybe he forsaw our offensive execution. Which reminds me of one of the greatest sports quotes of all time... "I'm in favor of it." - Tampa Bay head coach John McKay, on his team's execution
