I was watching the game with a bunch of friends from home (none of them GU alums) who couldn't understand why I stood up to cheer when Sead made that sweet bounce pass to Beal for the layup. Anytime Sead drops dimes on the heads of BE opponents is a good day in my book.

Anybody else slightly annoyed at how fans are more quick to chear for Sead than for Ryan Beal? Or for that matter, Josh and Tay?

not surprised at all. the thing is sead is more widely known than beal and more popular with the upperclasslmen that go to games (co 2007) because we are the same year. that and he is just strange and nice...

I guess a more accurate way of saying it is people cheer Saed like they cheered Hillier and Causey when they came off the bench... Not saying it's overt racism, but it's highly annoying that all of our players don't get the same support.

sead has always been the biggest cheerleader on this squad - so when he gets in, the students recognize that and cheer him
I didnt notice tyler being annoyed - i did notice the omnipresent scowl on tay spann's face - maybe he is just not a smiler, but he seems discontented. this is all speculation based on the several games that i have watched him, both on the bench and when he comes in for mop-up duty - the team is doing well and as a freshman, you should be happy to be a part of such a development...but i think he is p.o.'ed that edge and jessie are getting much more PT than him...
as for the other two frosh - great games from them - sapp is looking more and more comfortable getting significant minutes - i bet those two HUGE strips in the Duke game bolstered his confidence - hit a 3 ball and had a couple of pretty layups...edge had a line-drive three that was spot-on and a couple big boards...congrats to all these guys...and Tay, Cheer up baby! you are going to be part of a GU team that is making it to the dance for the first time in 5 years!!!

Not saying it's overt racism, but it's highly annoying that all of our players don't get the same support. I hear you, but I think you're off on Causey. Hillier and Sead are full-time bench warmers who rarely get in, hence the enthusiastic crowd response when they get it. Causey was a starter, wasn't he? I don't think the crowd went to the levels of the other two when Causey was in, simply because he was already there when the game began. But again, I hear you. I sometimes wished the students would go as crazy for Amadou (well, before he became a regular on-court presence) as they did for Sead. But I don't think it's simply straight up "we like white people better" racism. It's more of a "how cute, the white guys are playing" sort of thing. Let me explain: the crowd comes in with the sterotypical view that all black people rock at basketball and all white people (except, of course, Indianans and Mormons) suck at it. So when the "goofy white guys" get a chance to play, everyone's happy that the sucky guys get a chance to shine. Not that that's better than the straight up racism or anything...

I saw Tay up and applauding the team and celebrating/smiling a few times when they flashed to the bench this past week, so I think it's just him when he's playing. You know he'd like to play more, but he's in control of that and has plenty of time to earn more minutes.

I feel for Crawford. He had a great summer, and I'm sure was expecting more from this season.

Sead isn't really a Trenton Hillier phenomenon as much as an appreciation of his particular hilariousness. First, he's a friendly guy and lots of students, I'm sure, know him. Same can't be said for lots of other players. Second, he's the most enthusiastic guy on the team, or possibly any team. How can you not root for that? Third, he's Sead. What more can you say?
I get the point on Hillier or the similar players elsewhere, and there's a hint of a fairly benign racism there. Most of the students are white kids, and it's funny to see a little guy who looks like them (i.e. Trenton Hillier) out there. It just is. And since we're all so damn smart at Georgetown, we probably appreciate the irony more than most.
I cut my teeth as a basketball fan screaming for Brian Quinnett on the Knicks, so I'm as guilty as anyone.

I kinda dislike the whole "go crazy for Sead and Izzo" thing too. I think it's cliched and racist to a degree as well. Not that I don't like the fact that Sead and Izzo get an ovation, but I wish people would appreciate other subs as much. I mean, if you're going to cheer one under-utilized scholarship player like Sead, why not give the same treatment to others like Josh or Tay? If you're going to cheer one under-utilized walk-on like Kenny, why not another like Ryan Beal? It's very possible that people do know and enjoy Sead's personality, because it's true he's a really friendly guy off the court. But Izzo is definitely more reserved, much more like Ryan, Josh, or Tay than Sead. And he gets very much the same reaction. It's true that he's the absolute last guy on the bench, but still, I don't know that that's really why.
I think there's really something to the whole "OMG, they're putting the white guy in, that's hilarious!" thing, the implication being that white players, at least our white players, are terrible. I mean, I don't really know that there's reason to dispute that, but I think it's kinda lame to cheer for the white guys who never play, but not the black players that never play. If you're going to root for the end of the bench to get in, then great, but don't root for the guys who LOOK like they're the end of the bench and pay little attention to the guys who are at the end of the bench but have the same skin color as our starters.

It's not racist, it's just appreciation that these kids get the opportunity to go out and play. These kids bust their butts as hard as anyone on the team and obviously have a love for the sport if they're willing to walk on to a D-1 major team instead of going to play for a d-2 or d-3 school. I believe it's just the crowd's appreciation for these kids

I feel for Crawford. He had a great summer, and I'm sure was expecting more from this season. After last season, I thought Crawford was going to be our sixth or seventh man. But, every game he's played this season, it's like he's trying to do too much, turns the ball over and doesn't take advantage of his PT.
