Yes. The Johnnies were only on ESPN Plus - not too many people saw it. Also, they beat a Pitt team that everyone can agree was no Duke.

I was looking at the Win Loss situation of teams ranked 15-35 on the AP's rankings... this past week was a HUGE losing week for those teams. I pick 'Cuse, Iowa, and UNC to drop.
What's interesting about Tennasee is that they did beat Florida, but they lost to last wednesday and LSU the week before hand, yet their RPI is 6 (according to mid-majority).
#26 Xavier will drop with a loss to St. Louis #27 Tenn will move up #28 Southern Ill. Lost two and won 1, so they'll drop #29 Air Force went 1-1 for the week #30 LSU won two games (and their RPI is 32) #31 Nevada Lost to Fresno St. (RPI 51) #32 Nebraska lost to Kansas #33 N. Iowa won both their games this past week (RPI 12) #34 Bucknell won 2 (RPI 37) #35 Wake lost to NC State.
so it looks like the main contenders for the vacant spots are us, Tenn, LSU, N. Iowa, and Bucknell. It should be interesting to see how things pan out tomorrow afternoon. I'll be going to bed tonight though with dreams of a ranking in my head ;D

I think you have to reward Tennessee first and foremost. They have the Florida and TX wins under their belts. From there, I'd take GU, LSU, Bucknell, and Northern Iowa in that order in terms of who moves up. There may be little change with Xavier because they beat Cincy.

Good analysis, burg. I think we've definitely got a shot to crack the top 25. No guarantees.
It might actually be better if we don't quite make it. I'm afraid about Tuesday night's game. If we still don't make the top 25, hopefully that keeps the fire burning inside of our players. Hopefully they feel that they need to go on a big winning streak from here, because they still aren't getting the respect they deserve after Duke. Hopefully a snub motivates them, and they take it out on Notre Dame and then Cincinatti. Then we can be ranked next week.
Though a top 25 ranking this week would also be good as something to generate publicity for the program.

yeah, the more I think about it now, being ranked between 26-30 would definately light a fire up under the boys and give a lot of motivation to prove to the NCAA that we are legit. So scratch my top 25 dreams for right now. Going 2-0 this coming week is all I'm thinking about

I think JT III will have our players pumped and ready for the ND game no matter if we are ranked or not. Winning a big game like that doesn't make you overlook opponents but increases your intensity level. That being said ND is a big game for us to prove this wasn't a fluke and I see our players coming out hard and not flat footed (Knocking on wood for all of you people crazy enough to believe in jinxs).
I agree a lot with ST. Pete it is an important thing to be ranked and the publicity and buzz factor do enormous amounts of good for our recruiting and attendance which helps with $. It ultimately doesn't matter come March but still I don't dismiss it quite as easily as some of you.

I'd rather be unranked tomorrow in the 26-30 range and be ranked after we go 2-0 against Notre Dame and Cincy than be ranked, it blowing up our player's heads, and we lose one of the next two games. But that's just me.

I think the ESPN poll comes out around 2, and the AP poll around 5 or 6. Not 100% sure, but pretty sure.

Not too bad really. I like the fact that this puts us in the spotlight a little more but keeps us hungry for the games this week. I think we'll crack the top 20 if we sweep this week, if we split we stay about the same.
Keep working hard, Hoyas! Crush the Fighting Irish tomorrow!

Despite missing out, it is a big step in the right direction...we are at #27, we havent been that high in a looooong time. 2-0 this week should vault us in to the top 25

Hopefully, JTIII can use this to maintain the intensity for tomorrow night. The fact that all of these other teams -- not to mention Maryland who doesn't deserve to be anywhere near where they are, and Oklahoma who should have dropped out long ago -- are still ranked is, as you say, laughable.
