Foreign Policy Magazine has released a new survey of academics, policymakers and think tank staffers which found SFS to be number 1 among all three constituencies at the Graduate Level and number 3 among academics and number 1 among policymakers and think tank staffers at the undergraduate level.

Georgetown has stood well in a top tier that likely includes Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia, with Tufts and Johns Hopkins moving up.
Curious as to how GW and American fare in this survey, since they seem vulnerable to a Hopkins making inroads in the top tier.

Ny nephew seeking his Masters in IR was admitted to Georgetown, Columbia, Fletcher and SAIS. SAIS was the first to admit him and offered 40k scholarship renewable for his second year based upon academic standing. Then Columbia and Fletcher admitted him but with lesser amounts of scholarship money.
The Georgetown application asked if any of his relatives attended Georgetown. His stepfather and I are both SFSers. Georgetown was the last to admit him and offered ZERO money. His first choice had been SFS.
He graduated from SAIS in May and is headed to Japan on a postgraduate fellowship.

Yeah, the budget for master's scholarships at Georgetown is...not big.
Wish Bloomberg had given us a billion samoleons!

Hopkins...making inroads? Where ya been, man? In the 2018 survey they were further down the list for undergraduates. foreignpolicy.com/2018/02/20/top-fifty-schools-international-relations-foreign-policy/While I'm not an SFS grad I am mindful that it is a bellwether of Georgetown's academic reputation and one which faces headwinds if it 1) cannot support broader financial aid support and 2) does not address what are now aging facilities in the ICC. While I am not suggesting they follow the bandwagon downtown, the ICC is not a long term solution for the BSFS and MSFS programs in its ongoing state, one which could have, but was not addressed in, the current campaign. The campaign total was updated recently to $2.28 billion but the truly transformational gifts have not come to fruition.

AU top 10 SIS Ranked a Top School in the World for International Relations July 30, 2024 The School of International Service is a top-10 school for international relations In their first published ratings since 2018, Foreign Policy magazine once again lists the School of International Service (SIS) in the top tier of international relations programs around the world at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels as evaluated by faculty at international relations schools. The SIS masters and undergraduate programs both rank in the top 10, with our undergraduate program ranking eighth, up one spot from previous rankings, and our master’s program also placing eighth.

My son was admitted to a number of competitive schools for undergraduate studies. It came down to GU and a peer institution ranked a bit above GU in USN&WR. GU offered my son zero scholarship money and the other school offered $30,000. Ultimately, that tipped the scale.

Standard disclaimer that, for all intents and purposes (there is one exception that is capped at an honorarium-level $1,000), Georgetown does not offer academic merit undergraduate scholarships. There's a need-based formula and they stick to it pretty dang closely, much to the consternation of many in the upper(ish)-middle class who are stuck in the "too much income to get financial aid, to little wealth to swallow sticker price" valley of death.

That’s exactly where I reside. Plus, I have two in college at the same time.
