This is a compilation of all Division I head coaching contract extensions announced since the conclusion of the 2023-2024 regular season. Updated information will be indicated in bold; current and former Big East Conference head coaches are indicated in italics; head coaching years and records are current as of date of contract extension. Terms of compensation packages and other contract specifications are provided if announced by the school.
Contract extensions announced since my last post:
VIRGINIA (Atlantic Coast)-- Tony Bennett (15 years; 23-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 364-136 at UVa; 433-169 overall) signed a four-year contract extension June 13, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season, which further provides for an automatic one-year rollover through the 2030-2031 season if he is still the head coach on April 30, 2026; no terms of compensation nor other contract specifications were disclosed by UVa.

ALABAMA (Southeastern)-- Nate Oats (5 years; 21-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 113-53 at 'Bama; 209-96 overall) signed a six-year contract extension March 18, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season which contract extension provides for a salary of $5 million for the 2024-2025 with annual increases in the amount of $510,000 thereafter until his salary reaches $7.55 million in the 2029-2030 season. COLORADO STATE (Mountain West)-- Niko Medved (6 years; 25-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 117-75 at CSU; 196-162 overall) signed a multi-year extension April 15, 2024 through the 2028-2029 season, with options for additional years in 2029-2030 and 2030-2031; no terms of compensation nor other contract specifications were disclosed by CSU. SOUTH CAROLINA (Southeastern)-- Lamont Paris (2 years; 26-6 in the 2023-2024 season; 124-99 overall) signed a six-year contract extension March 15, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season, which extension provides for an increase in annual compensation from $2.3 million for the 2023-2024 season to $3.75 million for the 2024-2025 season, with annual salary increases in the amount of $250,000 thereafter until it reaches $5 million in the 2029-2030 season; the extension also provides for a $12.5 million buyout in the event of early contract termination by Paris, which then decreases annually thereafter until it reaches $1 million in the 2029-2030 season. WISCONSIN GREEN BAY (Horizon)-- Sundance Wicks (1 year; 18-14 in the 2023-2024 season, at UWGB and overall) received a one-year contract extension and revision April 11, 2024 through the 2028-2029 season, which now provides for an increase in base salary from $235,000 per season to $300,000 in the 2024-2025 season and $25,000 annual increases thereafter through the 2028-2029 season. The contract extension further provides for buyouts as liquidated damages if Wicks accepts a coaching position at another school in the amount of $705,000 if notice is given at any time prior to April 1, 2025, and then reducing to $475,000 in 2026, $350,000 in 2027, $150,000 in 2028 and $50,000 in 2029.

This is a compilation of all Division I head coaching contract extensions announced since the conclusion of the 2023-2024 regular season. Updated information will be indicated in bold; current and former Big East Conference head coaches are indicated in italics; head coaching years and records are current as of date of contract extension. Terms of compensation packages and other contract specifications are provided if announced by the school.
Contract extensions announced since my last post:
CONNECTICUT (Big East)-- Dan Hurley (6 years; 37-3 in the 2022-2023 season; 141-58 at UConn; 292-163 overall) has signed a new contract July 7, 2024 running through the 2029-30 season which contract provides for a total valuation of $50 million and includes the opportunity to earn additional compensation in the form of performance-based incentives. The new six-year contract provides that Hurley will receive an annual base salary of $400,000 with additional compensation for speaking, consulting and media obligations of $6.375 million for the 2024-25 season; the additional compensation increases annually through the balance of the contract. Hurley will also receive an annual retention bonus of $1 million. This retention bonus, together with annual salary increases and other program investments will be covered through the generosity of donors to the Husky Athletic Fund and anticipated increased ticket sales revenue.

VIRGINIA (Atlantic Coast)-- Tony Bennett (15 years; 23-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 364-136 at UVa; 433-169 overall) signed a four-year contract extension June 13, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season, which further provides for an automatic one-year rollover through the 2030-2031 season if he is still the head coach on April 30, 2026; no terms of compensation nor other contract specifications were disclosed by UVa. WAGNER (Northeast)-- Donald Copeland (2 years; 17-16 in the 2023-2024 season; 32-29 at Wagner and overall) received a five-year contract extension July 18, 2024 through the 2028-2029 season, with this extension being the first multi-year contract ever offered in Wagner athletic department history; no terms of compensation nor contract specifications were disclosed by Wagner. WISCONSIN GREEN BAY (Horizon)-- Sundance Wicks (1 year; 18-14 in the 2023-2024 season, at UWGB and overall) received a one-year contract extension and revision April 11, 2024 through the 2028-2029 season, which now provides for an increase in base salary from $235,000 per season to $300,000 in the 2024-2025 season and $25,000 annual increases thereafter through the 2028-2029 season. The contract extension further provides for buyouts as liquidated damages if Wicks accepts a coaching position at another school in the amount of $705,000 if notice is given at any time prior to April 1, 2025, and then reducing to $475,000 in 2026, $350,000 in 2027, $150,000 in 2028 and $50,000 in 2029.

This is a compilation of all Division I head coaching contract extensions announced since the conclusion of the 2023-2024 regular season. Updated information will be indicated in bold; current and former Big East Conference head coaches are indicated in italics; head coaching years and records are current as of date of contract extension. Terms of compensation packages and other contract specifications are provided if announced by the school.

ARKANSAS LITTLE ROCK (Ohio Valley)-- Darrell Walker (in his 7th season; 1-1 this season; 83-100 at UALR; 128-118 overall) signed a three-year contract extension November 11, 2024 through the 2027-2028 season; no terms of compensation nor contract specifications were disclosed by UALR.

ALABAMA (Southeastern)-- Nate Oats (5 years; 21-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 113-53 at 'Bama; 209-96 overall) signed a six-year contract extension March 18, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season which contract extension provides for a salary of $5 million for the 2024-2025 with annual increases in the amount of $510,000 thereafter until his salary reaches $7.55 million in the 2029-2030 season. The contract extension further provides for an $18 million buyout in the event of early contract termination by Oats through March 31, 2026, and thereafter a buyout in the amount of $10 million for the period April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, $4 million for the period April 1, 2027 through March 31, 2028, and no buyout thereafter for the balance of the extension. BOSTON UNIVERSITY (Patriot)-- Joe Jones (13 years; 16-17 in the 2023-2024 season; 218-191 at BU; 304-299 overall) received a multi-year contract extension November 1, 2024; no terms of compensation, length of extension nor other contract specifications were disclosed by BU. CALIFORNIA (Pacific 12)-- Mark Madsen (1 year; 13-18 in the 2023-2024 season and at Cal; 83-69 overall) signed a two-year contract extension March 12, 2024 through the 2029-2030 season; no terms of compensation nor other contract specifications were disclosed by Cal. COLORADO STATE (Mountain West)-- Niko Medved (6 years; 25-11 in the 2023-2024 season; 117-75 at CSU; 196-162 overall) signed a multi-year extension April 15, 2024 through the 2028-2029 season, with options for additional years in 2029-2030 and 2030-2031; no terms of compensation nor other contract specifications were disclosed by CSU. CONNECTICUT (Big East)-- Dan Hurley (6 years; 37-3 in the 2022-2023 season; 141-58 at UConn; 292-163 overall) has signed a new contract July 7, 2024 running through the 2029-30 season which contract provides for a total valuation of $50 million and includes the opportunity to earn additional compensation in the form of performance-based incentives. The new six-year contract provides that Hurley will receive an annual base salary of $400,000 with additional compensation for speaking, consulting and media obligations of $6.375 million for the 2024-25 season; the additional compensation increases annually through the balance of the contract. Hurley will also receive an annual retention bonus of $1 million. This retention bonus, together with annual salary increases and other program investments will be covered through the generosity of donors to the Husky Athletic Fund and anticipated increased ticket sales revenue. EASTERN KENTUCKY (ASUN)-- A.W. Hamilton (6 years; 17-14 in the 2023-2024 season; 104-88 at EKU and overall) received a multi-year contract extension May 31, 2024 through the 2027-2028 season; no terms of compensation nor contract extensions were disclosed by EKU.
