Gee, when will the weaponization of the DOJ against MAGA GOPers cease?! Politician accused of using fallen-officer donations for personal expenses A former Las Vegas City Council member who ran to be Nevada’s governor is accused of soliciting more than $70,000 in donations to build a memorial to a slain police officer, then using the money to pay for her daughter’s wedding and other personal expenses, according to a federal indictment filed Tuesday. Michele Fiore (R), now a justice of the peace in Nye County, Nev., had promised donors that their entire contributions would go toward a statue dedicated to an officer killed in the line of duty, the Justice Department said in a statement Wednesday. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/07/19/las-vegas-councilwoman-doj-indictment/

The only party/cult that advocates political violence - the MAGA GOP. Ohio state Sen. George Lang (R) said at a Trump-Vance 2024 rally Monday that he’s “afraid” a civil war might be necessary if Republicans lose the November election, before later recanting his remarks. “I believe wholeheartedly Donald Trump and Butler County’s JD Vance are the last chance to save our country, politically,” Lang said at a rally in Middletown, Ohio, the hometown of the first-term senator and GOP vice presidential nominee. “I’m afraid if we lose this one, it’s going to take a civil war to save the country, and it will be saved. It’s the greatest experiment in the history of mankind, and if we come down to a civil war, I’m glad we got people like … Bikers for Trump on our side,” he continued. Lang took to social media shortly after the rally and recanted the remarks, saying they “do not accurately reflect my views." thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4786515-gop-jd-vance-ohio-trump-2024-civil-war/

An egregious violation of the First Amendment according to you know who! (RNS) — The leader of the Southern Baptist Convention’s ethics and public policy entity was fired Monday, a day after he praised President Joe Biden’s decision to end his reelection bid. “In accordance with our bylaws, the executive committee has removed Brent Leatherwood as president,” the executive committee of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission said in a statement Monday. “Further details, as well as plans for the transition, will be provided at our September board meeting.” Leatherwood had been criticized for other recent positions on topics of key interest to Southern Baptists, such as not supporting legislation that would have jailed women who for having abortions. religionnews.com/2024/07/22/brent-leatherwood-erlc-president-fired-a-day-after-praising-biden/

Oh well, let’s keep tossing things that Republicans claim to believe in the scrap heap. Not a single coherent belief. Well, except the belief that, unless you are a white male, you are a “DEI” hire who is unqualified for your position. It’s coherent, but also deeply misogynistic and racist.

Well, except the belief that, unless you are a white male, you are a “DEI” hire who is unqualified for your position. It’s coherent, but also deeply misogynistic and racist. MAGA GOP racism and misogyny are just blatantly overt and sadly there are Hoyas who believe this and we also know who they are. Such grievances fit nicely with their unfounded belief that White males are the "victims" in today's America. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) on Monday doubled down on previous claims that Vice President Kamala Harris is a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hire, blasting her a day after becoming the frontrunner to replace President Biden as the Democratic nominee following his historic exit from the race. “Biden said he’s gonna hire a Black female for vice president,” Burchett said. “What about white females? What about any other group?” When you go down that route, you take mediocrity and that’s what they have right now as a vice president.” Burchett was then asked directly if he believed Harris was a DEI hire. “100 percent she was a DEI hire,” he responded. thehill.com/homenews/4787275-gop-rep-burchett-kamala-harris-dei-hire/

HoyaTalk "Republicans" are mighty proud of their cult, aren't they? POS Johnson tells the MAGA GOP cultists to stop but we already know what they really think. As Harris steps up to face Trump, far-right attacks follow As President Biden’s reelection bid fizzled over the last month, the right-wing targeting of Vice President Harris picked up steam, starting with a return of old racist and sexist memes. The weaker Biden appeared, the more intense the attacks became, with extremism monitors warning of a threatening undercurrent to rhetoric calling Harris a “demon” or a “DEI hire. More mainstream conservatives, too, engage in the racist and sexist dog whistling. Some Republican lawmakers mispronounce “Kamala,” for example, or promote conspiratorial thinking about her rise. At MAGA rallies, T-shirts and bumper stickers deride Harris with slogans that imply that she traded sexual favors for political gain. In the first two days of Harris’s campaign, online discussion of her among high-profile right-wing politicians and influencers grew to almost six times the typical volume, according to a Washington Post analysis. Sexual and racial themes dominated the chatter; dozens of influential figures on the right shared crude sexual remarks about Harris on social media. The spread of a debunked theory that Harris was ineligible for the presidency for citizenship reasons spiked after Biden endorsed her for the presidency. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/28/harris-steps-up-face-trump-far-right-attacks-follow/

And we know who is "weird" (and perhaps getting "weirder" as they contort themselves to defend the weirdos) here on HoyaTalk!😀 (I confess I do miss their mindless regurgitation of Fox/NY Post talking points, though). No, really, Republicans are getting weirder It would be strange for Democrats to attack the Republican presidential ticket for being “weird” if it weren’t true. But those men are getting weirder by the day. Former president Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (Ohio), is off to a wobbly start. A Harris 2024 campaign email sent on Friday was headlined, “JD Vance Is a Creep (Who Wants to Ban Abortion Nationwide).” The statement continued, “JD Vance is weird. Voters know it – Vance is the most unpopular VP pick in decades.” It was bad enough when footage resurfaced of a 2021 interview in which Vance called Democrats “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made.” Things got worse last week when Vance offered a non-apology, blaming “people” for “focusing so much on the sarcasm and not on the substance of what I actually said.” Uh, okay, but that doesn’t help at all. The substance — which Vance said he stands by — is asserting that adults without children do not deserve an equal say in the nation’s affairs. Another unearthed clip of Vance showed him arguing that parents, when they vote, should be able to cast an extra ballot for each child in their family who is under voting age. He didn’t take that back, either, going only so far as to claim it was a “thought experiment” and not a firm policy position. Trump is weird, too, and that’s increasingly clear. Since last fall, at campaign rallies he has been regularly telling that nonsensical story about a boat, a battery and a shark. When it was pointed out that the whole thing makes no sense and critics laughed at Trump’s ignorance of basic physics, he insisted on his self-proclaimed infallibility. It’s “actually not crazy” and “sort of a smart story,” he told one crowd. Not in this universe, though. Trump also can’t stop talking about “the late, great Hannibal Lecter,” a reference to the fictional cannibal serial killer portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in the 1991 film “The Silence of the Lambs.” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/07/29/democrats-call-republicans-weird/

I'm still waiting on Elvado's update on what Biden got (ya know, in addition to a pardon for Hunter) for not running for POTUS again. He's been so quiet. But, his "party" will be proud for floating stupid and baseless claims and, when they don't come to fruition, he runs and hides like a little snowflake. Right on brand for the former Republican party. And, nary a comment on Trump's mental fitness. I'm SO shocked. It's almost as though some folks aren't actually concerned about the things they've been popping off about for months. There should be a word for that...

Watching the Senate hearing on the attempted assassination of Don the Con. Kennedy, Hawley, Cruz and Lee are performative morons.
Sen. Langford is a serious legislator. There, I've said something positive about a Republican.
Having dealt tangentially with the Secret Service during my tenure at DOJ,it has been a broken arrogant agency for a number of years especially since it went from Treasury to DHS. Thanks, "W"!"

Chicken! Morons! Project 2025 to end policy work after Democratic attacks angered Trump The right-wing policy operation that became a rallying cry for Democrats and a nuisance for Republican nominee Donald Trump is trying to escape the public spotlight and repair relations with Trump’s campaign. Project 2025, a collaboration led by the Heritage Foundation among more than 110 conservative groups to develop a movement consensus blueprint for the next Republican administration, is winding down its policy operations, and its director, former Trump administration personnel official Paul Dans, is departing. The Heritage Foundation also recently distributed new talking points encouraging participants to emphasize that the project does not speak for Trump. The former president has repeatedly distanced himself from Project 2025 after relentless attacks from Democrats using some of the 900-page playbook’s more aggressive proposals to impute them to Trump’s agenda since many of the proposals were written by alumni of Trump’s White House. While some participants in the project started avoiding interviews and public appearances, Trump advisers grew furious that Heritage leaders continued promoting the project and feeding critical news coverage. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/07/30/project-2025-director-paul-dans-leaves-heritage-foundation/

It's still out there, and we know it's Trump's playbook. Kamala and the Dems should be all over this every day of the campaign.

An oldie but goodie:
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”
― Barry Goldwater (1909-1998)
