Love to see moron MAGA GOPers cannibalize themselves. A bunch of malignant clowns. Kevin McCarthy’s vaunted political operation launched its revenge tour against the Republicans who ousted him from the speakership with a multimillion-dollar blitz against Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina. But after Mace crushed her challengers in a Tuesday primary, Republicans in Washington are openly asking: What’s the point of all this? Primaries have always been a tug-of-war between party factions, but the personal vitriol in the Republican Party is remarkable. And the stakes are high: The GOP has held the House majority by just a handful of seats — and the chaos and dysfunction of a fractured caucus has been on full display. www.politico.com/news/2024/06/13/kevin-mccarthy-nancy-mace-gop-primaries-revenge-00163145

Tell me again how "Republicans" aren't racists? Republicans embrace a Confederate symbol, after years of unease The House voted Thursday on a Republican amendment to restore Arlington National Cemetery’s Confederate Memorial. The century-old monument, which was removed in December, features an enslaved Black “Mammy” holding the infant child of a White officer, as an enslaved Black man follows the officer off to war. The monument references the “Lost Cause,” a mythology about the Civil War era favored by apologists for the Confederacy. The amendment, sponsored by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.), did not pass, but it got very strong support in the House GOP conference. While 24 Republicans voted against restoring the monument, 192 voted in favor — nearly 89 percent of those voting. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/06/14/republicans-embrace-confederate-symbol-after-years-unease/

Texas!Yee Haw! Looks like they chickened out! Texas high court declines to decide if embryos are people or property HOUSTON — The Texas Supreme Court on Friday declined to consider whether frozen embryos are people or property in the eyes of the law — a ruling that could have had dramatic consequences in a state where in vitro fertilization is booming. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/06/14/ivf-texas-court-embryos-divorce/

Moron MAGA GOPers: Motivated ignorance refers to willfully blinding oneself to facts. It’s choosing not to know. In many cases, for many people, knowing the truth is simply too costly, too psychologically painful, too threatening to their core identity. Nescience is therefore incentivized; people actively decide to remain in a state of ignorance. If they are presented with strong arguments against a position they hold, or compelling evidence that disproves the narrative they embrace, they will reject them. Doing so fends off the psychological distress of the realization that they’ve been lying to themselves and to others. Motivated ignorance is a widespread phenomenon; most people, to one degree or another, employ it. What matters is the degree to which one embraces it, and the consequences of doing so. In the case of MAGA world, the lies that Trump supporters believe, or say they believe, are obviously untrue and obviously destructive. Since 2016 there’s been a ratchet effect, each conspiracy theory getting more preposterous and more malicious. Things that Trump supporters wouldn’t believe or accept in the past have since become loyalty tests. Election denialism is one example. The claim that Trump is the target of “lawfare,” victim to the weaponization of the justice system, is another. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/06/when-are-trump-supporters-complicit/678704/

Gaetz following in the footsteps of his role model, Demented Donnie. WASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it is continuing to review several allegations against Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., including that he engaged in sexual misconduct and illegal drug use. The bipartisan panel, which investigates ethics complaints, said in a lengthy statement it is also examining whether Gaetz “accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct.” www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/ethics-committee-investigating-allegations-sexual-misconduct-drug-use-rcna157719

GOP does it and they all circle the wagons, deflect, lie, project their misdeeds on the other party and claim witch-hunt. I have to give th GOP credit as it has been an incredibly durable and effective strategy for them. Their folks just eat it up. The irony of them calling themselves the law and order party is too rich (pun intended Harlan Crow).

I can’t read the article, so I don’t know if it’s mentioned there, but I think the point of this is ultimately get it to the Supreme Court where a favorable majority will let it stand. I think there will be a “boiling the frog” approach to Christian nationalism. They want to bring case after case with slightly higher stakes until it’s just full on.

Not mentioned but any result will be appealed to the 5th Circuit. Although the 5th Circuit has received notoriety for being the most conservative federal appeals court in the country, its sweeping and destructive democracy-related decisions suggest that it has become more of a right-wing activist court. Then onto the suspect SCOTUS.

May G-d have mercy on you. Another GOP hypocrite/pervert. Paul Pressler III, Baptist leader accused of sex abuse, dies at 94 Mr. Pressler was one of the co-architects of the Southern Baptist Convention’s “conservative resurgence,” an effort in the 1980s that reshaped the direction of America’s largest Protestant denomination. Mr. Pressler and others pushed out more liberal leaders, helped forge an alliance between White evangelicals and Republican conservatism, and focused on electing GOP candidates to public office. His religious legacy was stained after he was accused by a former assistant, Gareld Duane Rollins Jr., of sexual assault. In a lawsuit filed in 2017 in Harris County, where Houston is located, Rollins alleged that Mr. Pressler first raped him in 1979 when Rollins was 14 after the two met at a Bible study group led by Mr. Pressler, who was then an appeals court judge. Rollins alleged that Mr. Pressler continued to periodically sexually assault him over the following 24 years. Rollins also sued the Southern Baptist Convention and others whom he alleged covered up or enabled Mr. Pressler’s behavior. As part of the lawsuit, at least seven other men also came forward with their own accusations against Mr. Pressler of sexual abuse. www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2024/06/16/paul-pressler-baptist-abuse-dead/
