I respect the decision to redshirt and continue to get acclimated to college life. It is a shame that he couldn't join at the beginning of the year because at least then Cooley could actually have more bandwidth to pull anyone who is not playing well and he can develop, but instead be stuck long stretches with Heath and Ish not contributing anything, I believe in them to do better but it has been hard

Drew is going to be a bucket at the college level. We will be really happy to have him. In 2-3 years time, a frontcourt of him, Fielder, and Sorber could be in the top tier nationally.

I was certainly impressed over the summer. '25-'26 team?: Rowan Mulready McKenna Fielder Sorber A Lewis, McKenney, Williams, Reibe That'd be a really solid baseline 9 w/ lots of flexibilty + room for xfers & others. (Yes... Epps not included here -- I think he'll be gone by then.)

Sub McKenney out and put in Nyk.........we will need a secondary PG anyway.

Because of McKenna's mid-year move, he is kind of a forgotten piece to next years team. He isn't included in the team rankings by recruiting sites for next year even though that will be his class. It is also a pleasure to see us ahead of the curve for once and planning things two to three years out. This all assumes some roster stability which we haven't had in ages too. This is just a delight.

I think A Lewis is more likely than Nyk to come here, but either would work for me. Ideally, though, we'd back up Rowan with an experienced transfer in that scenario. Don't really want a FR backup on a contending team, no matter how talented - see CWright & Markel.

Agree. On paper, McKenna, Fielder and Sorber looks really strong. Hope it turns out that way.

Excited to see him in Kenner. Hoping he can be a real asset next year. I think Mulready, Sorber, and McKenna can all be quality depth next year but clearly need 2-3 starters (PG, PF, maybe C) to really compete.

Nice interview they did. I find it interesting that Cooley gave him Supreme Cook as his roommate.

This is an interesting interview. Drew seems like a nice kid. Some things I recall:
- McKenna said that Cooley reached out to him either his first or second day as head coach.
- McKenna said that his family loves Georgetown, and when he visited with his mother and sister, his sister told him that he had to go there.
- Caleb Williams' dad was responsible for getting McKenna onto an NBA floor when he was younger to play during a halftime.
- The decision behind enrolling early at Georgetown was started by his coaches. And then when it came time to sign his letter of intent, Cooley asked if he'd join early, and he said yes. He said that he couldn't finish his classes over the summer, which is why he had to join in the spring semester.
- McKenna said that playing in an NBA arena was really cool. I know we often lament about not having an on campus venue, but I think it's noteworthy that for these kids, there remains some value in playing in an NBA arena.
- As dense noted above, Supreme Cook is his roommate and has helped him get adjusted. He said the biggest adjustment so far is school. He joined the team on the road at Butler, when the team flew him out to Indianapolis.
- He noted how he just turned 18 and that Georgetown has an older team with guys who are much more developed, and who take things very seriously, and that you've got to take things seriously.

He said that he couldn't finish his classes over the summer, which is why he had to join in the spring semester. That was the part that absolutely blew my mind. I know initially some people had some worry that the reclassification would cause friction between Cooley and an area coaching staff, but from Drew's retelling of it - it was his high school coaches who not only approached him with the idea but talked him into it. Drew didn't think it was realistic at first or something that anyone did. Good listen.

I wonder if it was a Plan B to have him eligible this year or Cooley always wanted him to redshirt and get a guy in early so he didn't have a ton of "freshmen" who he only had 2 months with to start the 2025 season.
