Halftime, Hoyas up 2-0. Murrell had the second in 19' after the Broncos had a When Playing It Out Of The Back Goes Wrong moment. Santa Clara's most/only real dangerous change of the half came when the Hoyas had a WPIOOTBGW moment of their own, but put the shot over the bar. Field tilt was pretty lopsided for the first 25 minutes or so, but the Hoyas had to do some actual defending in the second quarter of the game.

No kidding. Broncos didn't seriously threaten the Hoyas goal for most of the second half, then scored a pair of goals 34 seconds apart in 79' to tie the game. Murrell thankfully restored order with a shot nicely placed in the upper right corner from about 15 yards out two minutes later, and 3-2 was where we finished. On to the Cardinal Sunday, where very bad minutes will likely prove more costly.

Very ugly 34 seconds aside, this is a nice start for the boys and Murrell is showing the class that made him National HS player of the year 2 years ago.

Hoyas sloppy in front of the keeper, Stanford with the head for the score.

Hoyas need halftime to arrive and to regroup.
Field has been slanted most of this half.

Stanford up 2-1 at the half. Hoyas have been a little off for most of the match, chasing more than controlling; Stanford is very quick on defense and other than our goal, that came from a Cardinal mistake, we have not put a lot of pressure on their keeper. As Elvado said, time to regroup.

This is a good Stanford team and this is the end of a long trip.
Hope to see them rally.

Sloppy foul right outside the box leads to Stanford's 5th goal off the free kick.

As thorough a dismantling as we have seen in recent years.
Two large takeaways:
1. Stanford is really good 2. We were a very tired and heavy legged team this t good not regain its footing after falling behind.
I expect the Staff will have a lot to say and that the boys will respond well.
Hoya Saxa gentlemen!!

1-5 final. Very hard to say out loud, but Hoyas thoroughly out-played throughout the match. Stanford is a very good team and playing in mid-season form. They pressed all over the filed, transitioned to the attack quickly and efficiently and finished clinically off of Hoya's sloppy defense. Hoyas looked like a team just starting the season after a coast to coast trip; we relied for the most part on long balls trying to free a forward, but the Stanford D was composed and always in position. Lots for Coach Wiese and his staff to work on, but we started last year slowly and finished strong. I expect no less this time around.
