Round 1: X scores, Buck saved. X up 1-0. Round 2: X scores, Dillow scores. X up 2-1. Round 3: X scores, Linhares scores. X up 3-2. Round 4: Schewe saves, Murrell scores. Tied 3-3. Round 5: X scores, Mabie scores. Tied 4-4. On to sudden death.
Round 6: X scores, Burns saved. Xavier wins 5-4.
Not sure what this will do to Hoyas RPI, but hoping we still get a #1 seed.

The Xavier keeper is quite the ....... … tool. I hate PKs - worst way to end a match.

Soccer/futbol is a team sport and shoot outs are not. There doesn't seem to be an easy answer- maybe back to sudden death?

Buck shouldn’t have gone first. Fanta mentioned an incredible stat: GU had taken just one PK, Buck to it, and sail it over the bar.

More thoughts later, but for now, a thought related to this topic of PKs: they are, of course, treated as a separate mechanism from the match itself. Usually this is all academic, but in this particular case, it does make a difference: the match is recorded as a draw, which is meaningfully different from a loss in RPI calculations. Marshall won the Sun Belt over West Virginia and is pretty much guaranteed to be the national #1 seed, as they sit at #1 in the RPI. By virtue of the draw with RPI 33 Xavier, Georgetown retains the RPI 2spot. Notre Dame sits at RPI 3, having fallen to RPI 21 Louisville in the ACC tournament quarterfinals. RPI 4 and coaches' poll #1 SMU lost the AAC final to RPI 14 Charlotte. RPI 5 UNC fell in PKs - and therefore recorded a draw against - RPI 17 Clemson. RPI 6 WVU had the aforementioned loss to Marshall. RPI 7 is *New Hampshire* (!) who lost the America East title game today to RPI 11 (!!) Bryant. RPI 8 is your CAA champs, Hofstra (!!!). The point being: Georgetown may well be the #2 national seed, and they absolutely should have home field advantage throughout the tournament. rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI%20Rank

Not sure what qualifies Notre Dame and UNC from being ahead of us beyond being ACC schools, but whatever. We've already beaten Pitt and JMU this season, so at least there shouldn't be any surprises there, though of course each game is different.

And a 2021 redux with the hillbillies looms for the Elite 8.

Being a west coast guy, I do not think you should overlook UCLA....Their record is sporadic this year with unexpected results here and there, but they just beat Stanfurd 3-1....I am not overly worried about them, but what I read here is an east coast bias on our trip to the College Cup...Go Hoyas.

I discount no one. Having “enjoyed” the company of our Deliverance extra friends back in 2021, that just popped into my head.

What happened to Stanford? They destroyed us. As we kept raising up ranks, I naively assumed they must be the #1 team. But they aren’t even ranked in the tournament. Seems like our game was an anomaly for either one or both of those teams.

Stanford caught the Hoyas on game 2 of a Western swing with players learning new roles, especially in the back 4.
The punished every mistake.
We have grown into what we are now.
