If the ACC gets to the point that they want UConn's football program, it has become a mid-major football conference with all its games aired on The Ocho.

I don't think I have ever heard of someone given every advantage in life, and failed so badly at every level, than Jim Mora JR (UCLA alum here btw) Him becoming the HC at UCONN is the definition of water finding its level. I'd take Jim Jr. back over the current guy. Quite possibly the worst UCLA coaching hire ever.

For those of you who don't frequent the "Front Page" - here is a tweet that links to a commentary on this topic: I guess, before Zuckerberg appropriated the term, you could say this post is meta. Interesting article, but I would note that Maryland and USC do have one thing in common. They both suck.

Georgetown isn't pulling its weight in the Big East - I think people are underselling the risk that at some point, teams like Xavier/Butler/Villanova/Creighton/Providence cut bait on DePaul/Georgetown/St. John's. Hoyas are actually pulling more than their weight when it comes to TV numbers....even last season. I'm sure it can't last forever but they aren't worthless....yet.

The charm of college basketball is the the fact that basketball, unlike football, is played with only 5 guys and at any time a small school with 2-3 good players can upset the "big boys". Sure they might not win any national championships (unless their name is Villanova) but they can become Cinderellas and knock the big boys out of the championship tournament. Fans, especially the casual fan and/or the non-alumni fan, love it and contribute to the strength of college basketball and TV ratings. As we've seen with football when they expended the championship series the non behemoths get crushed. As several sports writers have pointed out, if college football continues down this consolidation path it will eventually be perceived as NFL Lite and eventually lose its non-alumni fan base. Sure it will still be more profitable to these consolidated conference schools than college basketball is but I don't see it ever becoming a threat to college basketball or leading to ridiculous college basketball realignments.

Football has already resulted in ridiculous college conference realignments.

At what point do Football (and possibly men's basketball) conferences simply separate into their own groupings, and allow the olympic/non-revenue programs to remain in more reasonable regionally based conferences?

Agree. But you can’t undo what’s been done. We aren’t getting BC, Cuse, Pitt back with us. Yeah, not so concerned about the group that chose to be passengers on the good ship Titanic...ahem, ACC. I'm more thinking about the viability of a coast-to-coast Big East. The biggest concern to date with adding Gonzaga to the BE is not so much the travel required for the mens basketball team (a real concern to be fair, but enough TV money sooths most of that discomfort), but rather the extreme added costs of cross country travel for non-revenue sports. But yes, this applies to football as well--I can't believe UCLA's wrestling team is all that excited about traveling to Piscataway for a meet. Of course, taken to its likely end point, at what point do revenue sports become so removed from the institutions that they become wholly separate entities, and begin to act as such?

There’s still nearly three months until Big East Media Day, four months before the college basketball season kicks off and about five months before Big East Conference play begins. But it’s never too early around these parts to take a look at the 2022-23 Big East men’s basketball conference. 11. GEORGETOWN: Nowhere to go but up for Patrick Ewing & Co. after a winless Big East season. He’s baaack!: Qudus Wahab, who began his career at Georgetown and transferred to Maryland last year, is a Hoya again. One wonders why a big would leave a program coached by Ewing in the first place. Key: Win a league game. With Wahab, top returning scorer Dante Harris and four-star recruit Denver Anglin (who was a top UConn target), there’s some talent here. www.ctinsider.com/uconn/article/Midsummer-look-at-Big-East-Top-teams-players-17304087.php?t=9a340a3f5c
