At least everyone get refunds instead of eating the cost (as we were going to do thanks to high Covid rates in RI/omicron/no vax requirements and low mask compliance at the Dunk). I would be more upset about the forfeit policy if I thought it was going to matter by the end of the season.

Well, guess I won't be there after all. It was going to be tough to get to anyway given the 6:30 start and work being completely off the hook.
Not a great surprise as there was a big omicron surge on campus over the last week.
I expect the COVID issues are omicron breakthrough cases, which are expected. The vaccines work great at preventing serious illness and death (the goal) IF you have had 3 doses of mRNA or one J&J and one-two mRNA, they are less effective (probably 70-80ish %) at preventing mild illness. None of that is surprising.

Well it is what it is. Let’s hope nobody has serious symptoms and all the players and coaches come out of it ok. As others have said, as much as we’d all like to see them play, it’s not the worst thing in the world from a recovery perspective and having a widespread Covid issue now would generally mean that we won’t have these issues later in the year when (hopefully) the team is better gelled and playing together well. The way I figure it, this team is going to continue to improve throughout the season so are more likely to lose games in the first half of the season than the second so better to have to sit and forfeit now rather than later when they may be playing far better!

The only good thing I can say is the timing might be ideal...Gtown is not scheduled to play again until next Tuesday versus this Saturday so I would think there is reasonable hope this is the only game we have to forfeit.
Good chance we lose this game regardless if we played but the hole just got bigger for any hopes of a positive outcome for end of year...even if that meant only the NIT's...now we have to play over .500 the rest of this year in this conference and I don't see that happening...

Well sht. Hopefully everyone is vaccinated and these are all mild breakthrough cases. Our players have to be vaccinated unless there is medical reason not to do so. This is required of all Georgetown students. The campus reached a 98% vaccination rate. Chances are very good that they will be fine.

Will hoyaboya or hoya9797 be the first to blame Ewing for the spread of Omicron among the players?

It is certainly one less opportunty for a "good win" - even if we beat Providence at home, that won't be as impressive. All of these things could be an issue given the hole we dug ourselves in the non-conference.

At this rate the NCAA should really pause games for a couple weeks. Alot of other events are being cancelled and this is going to be a recurring problem as Omicron seems alot more contagious than previous versions.

Or they could change the protocols and move forward like the NFL is doing. I vote for changing protocols given that we're currently living in a vaccinated/effective therapeutics world compared to 21 months ago.

I can't stop laughing at the idea that the NCAA would have the power to do this or to do anything without the express written consent of the SEC.

Its a ludicrous policy given the state of things. Its one thing if the forfeits are due to infections among unvaccinated players/staff, or for some other violation of BE standards. This does not appear to be that, and I would imagine that most if not all BE teams (and in college and pro sports more broadly) are going to be hit by this in the next few weeks while omicron washes over.
I suspect that these "forfeits" will be reversed. I hope some of these games can be rescheduled, but if not then so be it. What probably needs to happen is something like what the NHL is doing--pause everything for a week or two and then reassess. We may know by the end of the year that omicron is pretty mild for the vaccinated--or we may know that its the black plague. If the former though, I'd assume things will open back up fairly quickly and testing policies will begin to fall more in line with what the NFL has announced where there will be no more testing of asymptomatic vaccinated individuals, and instead we focus on limiting serious illness without as much restriction on otherwise healthy vaccinated people.
In any event, the COVID pause seemed to serve the Hoyas very well last year. I guess it gave the group a chance to rest and reflect and get some of the bad juju out of their system. Giving Dante and Tim more time to recover from injuries can't hurt either. I am hopeful that when the Hoyas and college ball generally comes back, we'll see a refreshed group ready to defend the title.

The big thing on the horizon is the BSC College Football Semi Finals and Finals. Do they postpone that, turn away fans? That is probably the one thing that is hard to postpone.

I had acquired some nice tickets from the PC ticket office (much better than those offered to Georgetown) but apparently am going to get the shaft:
