1-1 final from Ludwig Field. Maryland scores the tying goal with 6:22 left in the game. Once again, the result is much more disappointing than the performance.
That brings the Hoyas to 1-1-3 on the year and Maryland to 0-0-4, in case anyone is wondering how the whole "no more OT in the regular season" thing is going...

Also missing a couple of key players. Yeah, Dave mentioned last night that they had their first Covid case(s) of the year. I was kinda surprised Maryland didn't have any provisions in place to keep Hoya Blue and Maryland's equivalent separated, but I guess no one is throwing down at a women's non-conference soccer game on a Thursday.

Not good re watching the goal at 84'. First time around I thought it a beautiful goal by them, which in fact it was, but the defender moving to the ball coming from the corner and totally leaving Stahl open driving the goal was more a mistake by us. The back line so far this year is not helping our frosh goalie as much as they should be. But having watched the defense we have had over the last seven years and considering what we lost last year, it will take time. I suspect we drop out of the rankings on this one and will have to work our way back up.

It has been a long road with a lot of injuries for Boo. So happy to see her come through, and especially so quickly. I am liking to see the pieces of this team come together and certainly hope that the first half injury to Henley T. was not that bad. Some very nice young, new talent on this team.

Yes, hoping for the best with Henley. She's added a much-needed degree of offensive quality. Her absence contributed to the game feeling... I guess "laborious" is the word. Still plenty of instances of not being on the same wavelength, miscommunication, etc. that can be improved upon. Of course, hers wasn't the only absence. Non-conference is the time to experiment with lineups and the like, but one gets the sense that a lot of it is being driven by necessity rather than purely "let's see what combos work best." I find it telling that the second goal came as a result of a terrible mistake in the box by Columbia. Full credit to Maja for both applying the pressure and then peeling open the defense like a clementine, but you generally aren't going to see that kind of panic from higher-caliber competition. Hopefully the full week until the next game will afford the time for both recuperation and getting some more things in sync.

Well, Henley was on crutches and in a boot at the men's game today. Not ideal.

Hoyas up 2-0 at half on a greasy goal by Vicari and Jackson’s 2nd of the year after a great entry from Lardner.

Fine effort against a thoroughly overmatched William & Mary side. Plenty of shots and opportunities and could have just as easily been 6-0.
Biggest development was the return of Allie Augur, who looked to be in her usual form. It's hard to make any confident judgments about things like this, but I do feel like having the QB of the defense back in goal helped make it possible for some of the backline players - Turner and Leas in particular - to go up in the attack way more. With no ETA on Tippins return (still in boot), it's going to be important to have those extra facets to the offense.
The ever-fun showdown with West Virginia awaits next weekend. One more key non-conference tune-up before beginning Big Easy play with... a Thursday night game at the Maryland Soccerplex. Hmmm, that's a new one.

Today will tell us a lot. Both teams hungering for a win for their NCAA resumes' if needed after league play. We have definitely played the tougher schedule with a better PSU result but that is on paper. The Mountaineers are always tough and up for the G'town games.
Good luck ladies. Keep up the heavy pressure.
