Pat put his arm around him and was clearly encouraging him after he hit the late 3. Was thinking that Pat was telling him that even though he didn't get a lot of run in the second half, he's going to play a major role in our success this year, and to keep shooting. Hopefully he sprinkled in that he'll play more if he fights through screens and is not a matador. I think part of the reason he was on the bench for much of the second half, was that he was in foul trouble. I think he got his fourth foul fairly early in the second half (or at least had 3 fouls pretty quickly). Once he was out of the game it seemed like Ewing went with the group he had on the floor for as long as he could and then inserted Rice back in at the end to add some more shooting to the team.

He has to do more than shoot on the offensive end, he has 2 assists this season… As much as I love shooters, I’m not a fan of his game Agree about his game but we need scoring from somewhere. If Carey is going to be passive and Dante has an off game, it will be a struggle to break 50pts. hm Exactly. Rice has kept us in games with his 3s. Yes, his defense is bad, but so is everyone else’s right now.

Also, if nothing else, when he’s on the floor, teams have to account for him as he needs next to no breathing room to launch from deep. That either frees up some driving lanes on his side of the floor or fingers crossed he goes 6/10 from 3. It’s the games where he goes 2/8 that are problematic because he doesn’t provide any pluses elsewhere.

I'm fine with him shooting quick in the clock, it's when he shoots off balance that makes me boil.

Rice definitely needs to use his length and be more of a defensive presence. However, I was looking at the American game again and noticed that he was very active defensively. Not perfect, but active. Had a couple of steals, ran through picks pretty well, had good footwork and positioning at times. Seems he wasn't asked to play a lot of defense at The Citadel, but he just might have more going in that department than we suspected.

If he's got it, he now has another incentive to use it. Play better D or lose your starter's spot to Holloway.

Oh yeah -- nothing like a little fire in the belly to push your game up a notch, absolutely. Also, if Ewing puts him in an elite group of 3 point shooters and Kaiden has any hopes to play at the next level, he's gotta get more defensive cred, don't you think? The road is littered with one talent phenoms.

Kaiden Rice had one of the worst offensive performances today I can remember from anybody. His O rating for the game was 6 (21 minutes played). Yes, 6.
He went 0-8 from three, 0-2 from two, and four turnovers.
Basically, if Rice isn't hot, he needs to sit, since he's a huge negative on the defensive end.

This is what happens when you expect a guy who was less than a 35% three point shooter at The Citadel to be your three point guy. I just don't think this roster has nearly the amount of talent on it than many of us thought we would have. Rice would possibly be useful as a role player who could, at times, come off the bench and give you a spark. But, he's starting, and we KNOW he is going to have off games like today a fair amount of the time. So, you're in a position where he'll often be playing, and giving you nothing on either side of the ball. Not a good place to be.

It would be much nicer if he hit 50% of his shots every game instead of 90% games alternating with 0% games. Only shooting when his feet are set would be a good starting point.

Some of the shots he takes are absolutely nuts…all upper body, no legs, feet not set. And yet, he’s our best three point shooter. I do remember Bile having some awful games before Turing it around when we got i to conference games. Let’s hope Rice plays more consistently as the season rolls on.

Yeah many including myself were dumping on Bile early on as he was dreadful before adjusting like much of the team but at least Bile gave 110% when on the court so let's hope for a turnaround

Rice's percentage (38.1%) is actually the highest of his career, but as Dan pointed out, it's so streaky that it makes it difficult to play him. I have to think if Rice slowed it down a little bit and took better shots, he could do even better. Excluding the small sample sizes (like Holloway or Mutombo who made one of one), Rice is our best three point shooter (Carey is shooting 46.9%, which is great), so it'd be nice if he could reign it in and get more consistent. That said, I think his run and gun type shooting makes that hard. I am not sure if that's his natural style, or if it comes from The Citadel's ridiculous pacing.

We have Rice shooting as much as he does because we have limited offensive options.

Rice had off game maybe trying too hard to impress his family, friends and high school coach.

He's streaky but I think his nerves got to him in playing in front of his hometown and feeling he had to step up (with Big Tim gone and Dante hobbled with the walking boot) in this particular game. Most of the shots were still close, just didn't fall.

Since he clearly has the green light... I can't find this...help anyone...what is the single season record for most 3pts made and I guess taken? You have to think he is going to threaten both those records this year... Iverson - 87/238 in '96 (record for makes & attempts) Rice pace right now: 124/284 He is going to destroy this record...

Happy for him. I don't care who we were playing.
