I'm sure they are kicking it...any news re scrimmages, other than the short-term rumor about a dunk?

From a good source: Aminu still in boot. Riley is a beast!! Very offensive minded. King also looking good and looks to score. Dante seems to have taken the next step in his game….could contend for top 2-3 Pg’s in the conference.
The center position remains up for grabs.

Thank you so much! Does anyone know why Aminu is in a boot?

Thank you so much! Does anyone know why Aminu is in a boot? I'm assuming he got injured during the Canada Olympic trials

When full reports come out about scrimmages & preseason training I expect that Jordan Riley’s ferocity will be at the forefront. Kind of great for Aminu (when healthy), Tyler and Jordan is that during these scrimmages they will have to go against Kobe Clark…Mr. Clark is no joke. Full of energy & solid footwork he is a tough defender.

He's saying that his skillset will be tested going against Kobe because he has the size, athleticism, skill and "want to" to make life hard for opponents.

I thought he meant that how hard Riley goes will be what's most talked about in preseason reports

I think we can say that he is as advertised....🤷🏾♂️

If so then how will that let us know whether his ball-handling and shooting have improved?

I’d expect Riley to look good in open runs where the game is a little looser and more up and down. It plays to his strengths and he should excel in that environment. Scoring in the half court when the defense is locked in is what I’m more concerned about, but it’s good to hear he’s playing well.

He has great 3-pt range and will use it to extend the defense in the half-court offense. Carey and Riley on the floor together could extend the defense and leave our other three players 1-v-1 with a lot of room to operate. With what I think will be a very good 3-pt shooting team with very good penetrating ball handlers, I’m looking forward to the Syracuse game at home.

I will clarify what I meant: I think Dante Harris takes what happens on the court very personally. He has said on social media “time to kill or be killed”. Dante was mostly overlooked by recruiting experts despite having former ACC great Curtis Staples as a coach. Watching every GU game I can say I never once doubted that Dante wanted to win as much or kore than anyone on the floor.
Jordan Riley has some big time accolades but he is also viewed by the national recruiting scene as kind of “big fish small pond” type thing. His mindset is very similar to Dante Harris.
From all reports Aminu is a warrior. I believe Kobe Clark has that same tenacity.
What I know about college basketball is that the team that wins 50/50 balls, draws charges, does not allow effortless layups by opponents and basically the HUNGRIER DAWGS wins ballgames.
My belief is that Jordan Riley will be FEROCIOUS. I think the incoming freshmen will join Kobe Clark & Dante in becoming a team that nobody wants to play.
I believe this coming season will be the return to HOYA BASKETBALL.

I heard that Riley had 5 alley-oop dunks in one scrimmage.

6’4” guards with good length and explosion are great. When that same 6’4” guard has a foxhole mentality and will try to dunk on peoples’ heads and chase down opponents from behind then you really have something.
Remember the hated Derrick Coleman from Syracuse? Now that it has been some decades I can say the guy was immensely skilled and had all the tools to be an all time great. All the tools except one: he did not see the game as “kill or be killed”. What if Coleman had Michael Graham’s tenacity?
I applaud Coach Ewing for assembling a roster of players that have the old school HOYA mentality. You get 4-6 DAWGS on a team the rest of the unit starts to growl too. Defense & aggression travels. Shooting and execution can take days off sometimes. I truly believe this year’s team will be a squad that nobody enjoys playing.

The notion that there were anywhere close to 100 high school players last year who are better prospects than Riley is dubious to me. We shall see...
