Tunes in for the 10000m. Brandt really had me thinking he had a chance there until the very end, but some people just really know how to save up exactly the right amount of N2O in the tank until the final stretch.

1 Patrick DEVER Tulsa [SR] 27:41.87 PB MR 2 Conner MANTZ BYU [JR] 27:42.46 3 Abdihamid NUR Northern Arizona [FR] 27:42.73 PB 4 Robert BRANDT Georgetown [SR] 27:43.17 PB 5 Eric HAMER Colorado St. [SR] 27:44.87 PB 6 Alex MASAI Hofstra [JR] 27:45.19
Robert was in it all the way. Kiptoo, the co-favorite finished 11th. Underdog Dever won. First NCAA 10,000m under 28 minutes. So Robert was way under the 28:01.3 meet record. Great performance by Robert and great running all through his abbreviated tenure at Georgetown. He has the Hoyas on the board. The 5000m next for him. Only 1.3 s from winning.

What a great race by Brandt. Positioned himself perfectly to be in the mix at the end. I cheered as loud as I could. Very exciting race!

On a night when many of the pre-race favorites faltered the Hoya men went three for three. Fast times and great finishes. Congratulations to the three athletes and their coaches!!!
All three runners were in a position to win their races down the final stretch.
A huge PR by Parker and .03 from the Olympic qualifying standard in moving on to the final.
Jack finished incredibly strong (55.73 in the last 400) and he looks to be ready for the final.
Robert ran a great race and had himself in position to win rounding the final turn. Good luck to him in the 5000!

Watched the 4 1500/steeple races. ... ++ RE: Protest in the 1500m: I imagine that was filed by Nebraska after their runner, Malebana, was taken out by the falling Michigan runner. That said, they were at the back of the pack when they went down so it would seem the changed outcome due to the fall was a DNF instead of like 10th in 3:44. Maybe he'll be advanced, but it doesn't affect Jack. ... Regarding this non-Hoyas-related bit, my assumption above was wrong. Reed Brown of Oregon was DQ'd from the 2nd heat for his inside-lunge at the line to get by the BYU runner, Talem Franco, by .01 for the last auto-Q.

Dever clearly had a lot left in the tank at the end but he was poorly positioned and IMHO just very fortunate to be able to pass Mantz on the inside.
Overall no school did better than Georgetown in the distance events last night...not BYU...not NAU...not Oregon...probably the greatest Hoya showing of all time at an NCAA championship: a 3:37 1500, 8:31 SC and 27:43 10000.

We'll see how the finals go! It is definitely an impressive start. Georgetown has a history of great performances at NCAAs. Not too long ago in 2017 the Hoya men finished T-12 in the team standings with 18pts. Joe White placed third in the 800m. Darren Fahy and Scott Carpenter placed second and fifth in the steeple. Jon Green raced the 10k but didn't score. In 1991, Georgetown men finished 8th in the team standings with 23pts. Peter Sherry came second in the 5k. Rich Kenah and Ethan Frey came fourth and fifth in the 800m. John Trautmann and Steve Holman came fifth and seventh in the 1500m. (Steve Holman came back the next year and won the 1500m before making the USA Olympic team in the event). You can go back further, but those are two great years at NCAA outdoors that come to mind!

Not to mention all those times we finished in the top 5 in indoor track in the 1980s. From 1985-1994 we finished top 6, 6 times. King, Stahr, Trautman, Holman and Kenah, that's some insane talent (all national champions).
Great night last night for the Hoyas!

Sami is up soon. She has the slowest PR in the heat, so I am hoping she is able to get her best time and sneak into the top 5 (or get one of the two other qualifying times).

Results from the 10000m have Robert's time of 27:43 as a PR, but he has a time from The Track Meet of 27:39.26. Maybe that meet was not recognized for some reason.

The two fastest nonqualifying times in the first heat of the 1500 were 4:09.83 and 4:10.84.

Sami was running 6th at 1100m, but slowed on the last lap to finish 10th. But she did beat Rachel McArthur, now of Colorado, formerly of Villanova. The winner is the sister of Pippa DONAGHU, Ella.
10 6 Sami CORMAN Georgetown [SO] 4:21.16 51.01 [51.01] 2:04.06 [1:13.05] 3:10.79 [1:06.74] 4:21.16 [1:10.38]
The slowest last lap for the top five was 64.06.
Sami gave it her all.
