Georgetown University will launch a liberal arts degree program this fall for inmates in Maryland’s state prison system, officials announced Wednesday. The degree program is an expansion of the university’s Prison Scholars Program, which has offered both noncredit and credit-bearing college courses to more than 150 incarcerated students at the D.C. Jail since 2018. Program leaders hope that with the ability to leave prison with a bachelor’s degree, inmates will have better outcomes after release. www.washingtonpost.com/education/2021/04/07/georgetown-university-prison-education/

Does that mean you can save $300,000 by going to prison to obtain your GU degree?

This is one of the great new programs of the last 10 years at Georgetown. The move to a full degree program is a valuable step forward.

Careful, Russky - you might trigger some of our HoyaTalk "Republicans."
While Republican legislators across the nation have proposed scaling back voting rights, several states have worked to expand voting rights to current and formerly incarcerated people. For legislators across the nation, Castón’s story provides a glimpse into the effect of those reforms.
