All good points above. To me, the key is really beating SDSU not only because it would give us a nice OOC win, but also because we would get the chance at USC. I would much rather have that game, and lose, than play St. Joseph's and win. The other thing we can hope for is that programs like South Carolina and TCU improve this year over last, which would give us some help too. Last year was TCU's worse year by far under Dixon. Dixon's TCU teams have been 29, 24, 40, 86, and 140. If Dixon can revert back even to 2019 or 2020 form, to a top 100 team, that would make that game a lot better for us. South Carolian is similar. Last year, they were 124, but the previous several years, they were 69, 70, 80, 24, 58, 63 (and then 209 and 112 Martin's first two years). So, based on history, I would say there's a fair chance that one of those two programs will improve on last year, thereby improving our Strength of Schedule. I hope so. Syracuse has been stuck in the 40-55ish area for several years now, and I know nothing about their recruiting, but it doesn't seem like they're likely to be much better than that. It is interesting how Syracuse's decline largely coincides with leaving the Big East. They've made a few NCAA appearances, but really not had a great team since leaving. I could see both being better than last year but I doubt either is a tournament team. They are both probably around our range as they have some decent returning players mixed with a lot of transfers so you never know how it turns out. If they can both get back to Top 75 teams that would be great. Those games are fine. If I had to guess right now we will play two OOC tournament teams. Lose them and our resume looks bleak. Add that to an expected down year in the Big East and 10-10 might not even get it done. Its all the home cupcakes that are the killer. We talk about how we may get left behind in NIL because we don't have the home fan base enthusiasm. How can you expect local fans or local business to get enthused when our home games will be 1/4 full because the casual fans could care less about cupcakes. Down year in the BE? Most people are talking about it being harder with all the seniors that came back.

I guess down year is all relative considering the Big East hasn't had more than 4 teams since 2018 and that is even having UConn joining and us stealing a bid last year. Maybe down is the new normal.

Syracuse losing two Top 25 recruits: Do you think Jim is telling them to not focus on that rn too much with his older way of thinking or Syracuse just isn’t a hot spot for NIL chances locally or nationally as a brand for the players? Or maybe many places don’t want to associate with a school that had the controversy with that other coach?I’d imagine you also want to be part of one of the better teams in any conference to max those chances since Syracuse finished middling in a season where Duke and Norte dame (saw somewhere that they could’ve done a lot better) under performed

I'd find this news far more interesting if the programs were even remotely close to being on equal ground right now. Somehow Boeheim has gotten better with age, at least in pulling NCAA Tournament runs out of his you know what. It's unbelievable the path these two programs have taken since that 61-39 beatdown at the end of 2013.

Even that year Sucks made a FF run and we lost in the 1st round to FGC. The zone causes real problems for teams that don't see it regularly. Sucks probably regressed a little. Georgetown on the other hand really fell off a cliff from that year. This year could be the beginning of a special run with Coach Ewing if the team gels quickly. We'll see.

Guessing that had something to do with this. Maybe he's telling them not to pursue those deals, but that would seem fishy given that he's been giving illegal benefits to players for years anyway considering the YMCA accusations from years ago. Could also potentially be that he's telling these recruits before signing day that he is planning on retiring but asked them not to make that public. That would make sense why 2 kids have jumped ship in quick succession.

I dunno, wouldn't they be all in on playing for Coach Gerry McNamara? I can guess which board posters will be advocating for us to go outside the family and hire him away from 'Cuse. After all, isn't salivating over Danny Hurley halfway to that?

FWIW - ESPN has Syracuse as 7th of 14 in the ACC. They seem destined to be a bubble team every year who just gets in and wins a few games.
As an aside, is there any buzz up there as to when this era is ending? Figured coaching his son through graduation would be a natural endpoint, but I haven’t heard too much one way or the other.
With Coach K and Roy done, plus Jimmy B soon, this conference is certainly undergoing a transition. Wonder if a school like UVA steps up and benefits (even more so). Reminds me of the mid to late 90s where the traditional BE powers slowed down and led to UConn’s rise.

Not sure if it impacts us at all, but I just heard that NBC will be pulling the plug on NBCSN at the end of this year

They are just reshuffling due to COVID and moving the sports (Premier League) to the stronger, longer lasting brands (USA, Peackock)

Yeah I didn’t even know they had those conferences, USA definitely did have longer spells where they had premier league games but idk now since I don’t have cable anymore and they are streamlining with peacock and any other channels because their main thing is prem at least to me and it got really confusing where to watch games in the past two years

They've variously covered the NHL, college football, pro tennis, pro golf, and boxing. Today, it's mostly WWE, "Chrisley Knows Best", reruns of Law and Order, and a backup for NBC Olympic coverage. It's still not clear if NBC has any plan for moving sports there going forward outside of what was on NBCSN, given how little is left in their non-Olympic broadcast sports portfolio: one Sunday night NFL game a week, Notre Dame football, and some golf. In the last 25 years they have lost each of the big four pro sport contracts.
