We have a lot of new pieces, so I hope we can play well as a team in November. Maybe more realistic expectation are in order. 5 new freshman plus some transfers are probably going to take past the 1st month of the season to play as a team. Year 5 of the Ewing era and we continue to lower expectations. Should we ever expect him to helm a top 25 team? Top 10? Or does he just get a lifetime pass as a coach since he was a great player?

Nope we aren't lowering expectations. There are a few posters that always expect the worse and there are some posters that just hate Coach Ewing no matter. I expect a Top 25 finish and a Sweet 16 game. We have a talented PG and talent surrounding him. It's go time.....

Serious question: are you impressed with where Ewing has Georgetown 4 years into his coaching career?

I'm certainly happy with the recent BET championship, or does that already fall into the category of what have you done for me lately?

Ugh I guess we couldâve gotten a worse team in the Big 12 but this does not appeal to a season ticket buyer at all to go to cap one. And come to think Dixon (after getting chucked from pitt bc that athletics admin is one of the worst) is kind of similar to Ewing, coaching at alma, one tourney appearance so far (Dixon has had 5 seasons now tho I think), loads of transfers, silverware (1 NIT trophy vs BET), and an important season coming up that could see the seat heat up fast. Hopefully this should be a win and really need to get some better ooc games for the other slots even if they are just bubble teams and not really high end ones bc that would help make the at-large case with real wins

TCU is a tough, hard-nosed team that should give us a tough game but we should also win. It won't be a great OOC win but it will be great for building confidence and team play. I'm not sure what TCU has on their roster but from past experience they remind me of the Penn State team we lost to 2yrs ago. A game we should win if we come to play but also a game we could lose if not focused.

TCU isn't the most exciting match-up, but it certainly won't hurt our SOS. Combined with some tough games in Anaheim (USC and SDSU are good bets for tournament teams, I don't know much about St. Joes), Syracuse, a B10 Gavitt Games matchup, it looks like we'll have a decent enough OOC slate.

8. TCU Starters: Shahada Wells (transfer), Mike Miles, Micah Peavy (transfer), Emanuel Miller (transfer), Souleymane Doumbia (transfer) Bench: Cashius McNeilly (transfer), Chuck OâBannon, Francisco Farabello, Damion Baugh (transfer), Xavier Cork, Eddie Lampkin One of the best qualities of Jamie Dixon teams is their ability to share the ball. Dixon had gone 11 straight years with his teams finishing in the top 30 in assist rate nationally, and seven of those squads finished in the top 10. That ended this past year with a 102nd finish. Dixon tried to address that by adding UT Arlington point guard Shahada Wells, who had a 31.1 assist rate. Wells dominated the ball at UTA and Mike Miles is a ball-dominant guard, so expect to see TCU feature a heavy dose of those two. The Horned Frogs also needed to get more athletic and find some finishers, and Texas A&M transfer Emanuel Miller and Texas Tech transfer Micah Peavy should help in that department. Then finally, the Horned Frogs were missing a knockdown 3-point threat after graduating Desmond Bane, and the next potential Bane could be A&M transfer Cashius McNeilly, who is known as a shooter. He spent two years in College Station but has yet to play a minute of college basketball. This is another team that could really make a leap depending on how the transfers work out. theathletic.com/2631054/2021/06/07/early-big-12-mens-basketball-rankings-kansas-jayhawks-are-on-top-but-baylor-is-right-behind-them/

However this is an important game nevertheless because i canât imagine TCU doing good enough to make the tournament from the big 12 so losing this would really hurt us. While I like the field in the thanksgiving mini tournament in terms of most not being bubble teams, we should take on a typical very heavy hitter seed like we had WVU last year who were a 3 I think, but this might get resolved in our big 10 match up

12. South Carolina Possible starters: Keyshawn Bryant, Jermaine Couisnard, Devin Carter (Fr.), Alanzo Frink, Wildens Leveque Bench: Tre-Vaughn Minott, Mike Green, JaâVon Benson, Ford Cooper Jr., James Reese (transfer), Erik Stevenson (transfer), A.J. Wilson (transfer), Chico Carter Jr. (transfer), Brandon Martin (transfer), Jacobi Wright (Fr.), TaQuan Woodley (Fr.) The Gamecocks havenât been to the NCAA Tournament since their stunning run to a Final Four in 2017 and this does not look like the team to get there. They lost the only real standout from a 6-15 season, AJ Lawson, to the NBA Draft and six players entered the transfer portal. The return of Bryant (14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds), Couisnard (10.1 points, 3.2 assists) and the 6-11, 230-pound Leveque (6.1 points, 4.8 boards) does at least offer a foundation. The addition of top-100 freshman Devin Carter helps. But none of the transfers really pop. Reese averaged 10.9 points at North Texas, Chico Carter 12.7 points at Murray State, Stevenson 9.3 points at Washington and Wilson 7.8 points at George Mason. Frank Martinâs son transferring from USC Upstate to play for his dad is a nice story, but not especially impactful on the court. Martin and the school have had an openly tense relationship lately, and this season feels like it could be the breaking point. theathletic.com/2651399/2021/06/15/early-sec-mens-basketball-power-rankings-kentucky-tennessee-stand-ahead-in-a-loaded-conference/

South Carolina is a good OOC home and away. Last year, South Carolina was pretty bad (124 on KenPom), but Frank Martin usually has them in the 70-80 range. For an away game, that would be pretty good. It's less valuable as a home game in 2022-2023, but I will take it all day long over SWAC/MEAC. Hopefully it's a sign that we are moving in the direction of better schedules.
