Patrick with healthy knees was a sight to behold. Pat's time at G-town was before my time following the program. All I knew was Ewing from the NBA and his knees. And he was STILL good, all-stars, hall of famer. Seeing his college games on youtube is truly a sight to behold. He is just a different player. The speed in which he ran the floor was incredible. We could literally full-court press teams at all 5 positions. Small ball without having to play small ball with Ewing's height and agility. Beyond that, he was the best teammate and humble. No ego for a guy of his stature.

When his body failed him, he adapted his game and still ended up a top 50 all time guy when he started out as a unicorn who could dominate solely with his athleticism.

Ewing was an incredible college player. Once his knees began to go early in his career, he was not nearly the same. Yet he still crafted a HOF career. This shows how talented he was - most players would have drifted into the mix of average NBA players with the kind of knee issues Ewing had. But he was so talented, and worked so hard at developing is skills and building his physical strength - that he was able to ride a "plan B"skill set to the hall of fame. If his knees had held up - Ewing would be up there with the all time great NBA centers. He was not quite Wilt or Kareem in college, but he was right there with any other college big man. His combination of size, athleticism, and skill was a rare joy to experience as a student fan during his Hoya career.

Patrick was so athletic he'd have been Giannis before Giannis was Giannis but Patrick was always far more skilled.

You all know my admiration for Patrick. I don't even have to talk about it. I can tell you sooooo many stories of the things he's done on the court but you would have to be there to witness it (or at least had to be around during that time) to experience the true Patrick Ewing effect. It was a amazing. For those that were not around when he played at Georgetown, did you catch (a video, perhaps Youtube) of his dunk on Ralph Sampson after Ralph Sampson dunked on him when Georgetown played Virginia at the Capital Center I believe it might have been Patrick's junior year? Don't quote me on the year or Patrick's year in school. Even though Georgetown lost, that dunk was Patrick Ewing emphatically saying I'm the King of the paint!

Ironically, Patrick probably would have been better suited in today’s game as he could shoot and move (before his bad knees) better than most centers of his era.

Defenders beat the crap out of him because they couldn't stay in front of him. That isn't an option now.

Also, before the 3 point shot teams would just collapse on Patrick. Watching videos of those games you are shocked at how manhandled and basically mugged Patrick was when he got the ball in the paint.

DePaul would be following Bino Ransom there. I assume Ransom recruited him to UM in the first place.
