Finally, our first outdoor meet. The team went down to Raleigh and about 30 Hoyas will participate.
Christopher Pitt, freshman, will be the first Hoya to run. He is entered in the 1st heat of the 100m. He is the only freshman in his heat. And he came in 7th and last in his heat in a time of 11.10. Josiah Laney is in the 4th heat.

The only other Hoyas competing today are in the men's 1500m. They are Carter Blunt (one of our grad transfers from UCLA), Parker Stokes, and Theo Woods.

The person that organized the meet asked the coach if they could use the track and he said yes without getting the necessary permissions apparently. A bunch of athletes and their parents showed support for the coach, but the school board stood by the decision to dismiss him. Apparently he can reapply for the job after a year away if he so chooses.

Results from the 1500m:
16. Parker Stokes 3:46.24 4th in heat 8 29. Carter Blunt 3:47.75 9th in heat 8 31. Theo Woods 3:47.89 5th in heat 7
These are very good times for the first race of the season. Equivalent to 4:04-5 for the mile.
However, Villanova racked up some top times.
1 Sean DOLAN Villanova [FR] 3:39.45 9 (1) MR FR 2 Casey COMBER Villanova [SR] 3:39.67 9 (2) 9 (7) 8 Charlie O'DONOVAN Villanova [FR] 3:41.73 9 (8)
Dolan got the meet and facility record. All of their times under 4. And how old is Casey Comber; he has been at Nova forever. And what is Dolan going to Nova when he is from EWING, NJ???

Apparently he can reapply for the job after a year away if he so chooses. The person who organized the meet is Matt Strangio. He had hope to compete in the race, but he was injured. He was one of the top distance recruits, and he is now at the University of Portland. His mom is a PE teacher and former head track coach at Sutter Middle School, where I now coach. They were both incredulous, when the coach was suspended and then fired.

Definitely a smart and tough race by Maggie Donahue. #5 all-time performance by a Hoya. Her improvement vs last year is amazing.
In the Men's 10000m a pack of five emerged about halfway thru which included Robert, Vincent Kiprop of Alabama, 2 Butler guys and Danny Kilrea of Notre Dame. It ended with Robert vs Kiprop and Robert's final lap of 59 was able to give him the .05 second win. Robert was content to sit in 5th for the first 5000m and let Kiprop do the leading duties for the second 5000m, only taking the lead with 2 laps to go.
Great jobs by Jack and Jantz for sticking with a tough pace for many many laps (24+) and recording some great times. Not that many chances to run an outdoor 10000m...Jack's time should be close to the NCAA qualifying standard.
1 1 Robert BRANDT Georgetown [SR] 28:23.55 8 23 Jack VAN SCOTER Georgetown [JR] 29:05.21 30 35 Jantz TOSTENSON Georgetown [FR] 30:31.92

Women's 800m
30 Maegan DOODY Georgetown [JR] 2:11.18 5 (4) 37 Sierra DINNEEN Georgetown [FR] 2:12.60 (2:12.595) 5 (6) 47 Katherine MODRALL Georgetown [SO] 2:13.92 7 (3) 50 Alie FORDYCE Georgetown [SR] 2:14.54 6 (7) 51 Chloe GONZALEZ Georgetown [FR] 2:14.60 7 (4) Linnea SALTZ Georgetown [SR] DNF 1 Cathilyn MCINTOSH Georgetown [SO] DNF 2
Not sure what Linnea and Cathilyn were doing; they must have been pacing in heats one and two, because they are our best 800m runners.

From the split times from heats 1 and 2, both Linnea and Cathilyn were in front at the end of first lap, so it looks like a pacing job.

Heat two of the Steeplechase has alum Eion Nohilly. Wondering why he is not competing for Georgetown as a grad student (I think he should have eligibility. His running in this meet is interesting because his father Tom has the meet and facility record of 8:36.30 from back in 1996.
