Scumbag McCarthy is afraid that he's going to be subpoenaed to testify about his conversations with the sociopath on Jan. 6th and beyond. An honest proceeding would also require Mr. McCarthy to testify under oath about his eyewitness experience of the violence — and to then-President Donald Trump’s apparent indifference. Mr. McCarthy has resisted offering the public a frank accounting of his interactions with Mr. Trump, including on a phone call during which Mr. McCarthy reportedly begged Mr. Trump to stop the mob. Mr. McCarthy has concluded that whatever political benefits he receives from embracing Mr. Trump are worth the price of his integrity. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/kevin-mccarthy-plumbs-new-depths-of-political-cowardice/2021/05/18/84d15cf4-b812-11eb-96b9-e949d5397de9_story.html

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), in making spurious objections to an agreement negotiated by his own member, Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.), to set up an independent commission on the Jan. 6 insurrection, revealed he remains a toady for the disgraced former president who instigated the violent assault on the Capitol. That’s precisely what Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has alleged, and her diagnosis proves again to be spot on. McCarthy’s cowardly position betrays his own members, shows he will continue to put MAGA obedience above truth and democracy, and reminds the country why it would be dangerous to make him speaker. Part of his motivation is likely attributable to his own role as a witness. Unless he perjures himself or refuses to testify (risking a contempt finding), he will have to testify about a phone call on Jan. 6 in which he failed to persuade the outgoing president to rescue the Capitol. (Cheney has made clear that McCarthy should testify and added that she hopes he will do so without a subpoena.) The phone call indicts both people in that conversation — the president for refusing to perform his duties and McCarthy in covering up that salient point. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/05/19/mccarthy-shows-why-we-cant-allow-mccarthy-become-speaker/

IMO, this should be a no-brainer.

Lying POS Republicans. Several Republicans who oppose creating a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol are more than lawmakers making a public policy decision — they are potential witnesses to what former president Donald Trump and his aides were saying and doing as the mob laid siege. “What really happened that day — and everyone knows it — is that the president was not interested in doing anything as the country was under attack,” said one Republican aide who was in the Capitol as the rioters came and who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter. “The commission could prove that.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/jan-6-commission-witnesses/2021/05/20/d6820126-b988-11eb-a5fe-bb49dc89a248_story.html

Cowardly Edited Republicans. The party of lies. They can't handle the truth. If you want to talk about where House majorities rise and fall, it’s in swing districts, and swing voters look at facts and reason,” Jon Reinish, a New York-based Democratic strategist, said. “They saw this happen. It is impossible for the American public to forget Jan. 6, because everybody watched it unfold in real time on TV in an unfiltered way.” Reinish accused Republicans of engaging in a kind of “historical revisionism” in an effort to appease former President Donald Trump, who was impeached in January for his role in inciting the riot. He said that GOP lawmakers will have to be prepared to answer “over and over again why your party is trying to block this investigation.” thehill.com/homenews/campaign/554795-democrats-seize-on-gop-opposition-to-jan-6-commission

Time for more Congressional hearings and for the DOJ to do their work.

This is all a prelude to further corruption of the democratic process in future elections. They have riled up their base by telling them the election was “stolen”. Next they have already tested their base’s tolerance for corruption of the democratic process with phony recounts and laws to suppress voters that won’t vote for them. The base’s response has been “hell yeah!” This is not going to end well. Why wouldn’t they try to do everything they can in the future to cheat the election process when over 50 % of their base believes they are doing the “right” thing because they believe the other side is doing it too and their leaders have no spine to tell them otherwise?
Unfortunately voting laws are largely state driven and most states are able to make laws that favor suppression of democratic voters because the state houses are flooded with republican majorities created by gerrymandering even though majority of state population may be democrats. It’s a slow crawl to real trouble and it is disappointing to see career politicians put their “careers” ahead of country. We are headed for real trouble in the future folks. Poll after poll show the Republican Party has a real problem with distorted thinking within its base.

The greatest threat to American democracy is the Republican Party and Putin is laughing his a** off.
