Agree--ridiculous analogy. Cooley is Gtwn's highest paid employee by a lot. The univ pushes basketball as part of the Univ's identity--Cooley spoke to parents/students on admitted students wknd-that's common for a B10 school for ex. I remember visiting a B10 Ivy and Gtwn for admitted students' day--Gtwn and the B10 school had similar prominence for sports, Ivy did not. There's nothing negative about highlighting sports school spirit etc, just that making believe that's it's not impt or the Pres does not have some resp for the program status is not real world for Gtwn. Lets be honest with ourselves. If GU dropped basketball or, as is most likely, we left the BE and joined the Patriot League, do you really think it will have any impact on the reputation of the University, fundraising or student recruitment? Sadly it will hurt us on this Board a lot more than it will hurt the University. I agree that the next 2-3 are huge for the future of GU basketball. If by 2029 Coooley hasn't turned the program around then I'd argue for downgrading to Patriot League rather than trying to beat this dead horse.
