Doesn't look like UMBC has updated their online roster for this year yet. umbcretrievers.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/rosterLooks like they will field 3 seniors inside - a 6'8" 240 Serb transfer from Eastern Carolina, a 6'9" Brit who provides limited scoring and Brandon Horvath, a 6'10" 210 kid out of West River, MD who will be the biggest challenge on the boards and defensively. Together they will make an interesting, experienced challenge for our inside guys, though they can't match Q or TimI for size. If Darnell Rogers comes back healthy, he will be their go to guard and playmaker with one other guard, RJ Eytle-Rock providing the outside threat. Not sure who they pick up new this year, but the core is not exactly intimidating. This game will be about establishing our identity and playing our game plan. If we can't gel and impose our will on Wednesday, the season gets long quickly. I expect to see Pick getting a lot of plays run for him, feeding the post for Q and TimI to dominate inside and, hopefully, Bile and Carey and the other news guys finding PT, outside shots and perimeter D. Anything can happen in 2020, but getting a game tipped off at 4 on Wednesday will be a welcome milestone in moving beyond last year's roster implosion and all the rest that has happened. Can't wait to see some Hoya ball! Your post totally fired me up Seaweed!!!!! Let's Go Hoyas!!! Hoya Saxa baby!!

Hoping that this year's team can make the perimeter shot and defend it. Both would be significant steps forward.

I want to see:
Full on hockey subs
Great hustle- go hard for a few, get a breath, come back in
Boxing out and rebounding
Effort, effort, effort on defense- I am okay if the mechanics still need work, but I want to see our guys WANT to get stops
Feeding the bigs inside
Letting good shots fly from three
No timeouts due to runs by the opponent
Most importantly: OLD SCHOOL HOYA ATTITUDE AND SWAGGER
GO HOYAS!!!

We started last year with a lot of subs and I’m not sure it worked that well. Perhaps the different composition of the roster lends itself better to this approach though. I’m most excited to see if/how the defense changes. For all their offense prowess, not having lineups out there with any of Govan, Yurt, Mac has me optimistic. Still a little worried about Blair and Pickett as they have been issues at times too, and there’s no longer Jagan to step up and do the little things.

Just hopefully not at the expense of winning. I’d take a few nail biters if it means development for the BE portion

I also think the new roster composition will lend itself to more of an all-hands approach. If we go by what Pat and Pickett said, we will have a better, more versatile defensive team. Press to start an opponents' possession (we have the players to do it), switch defenses in the half-court, take advantage of mismatches, cut down on opponents' open 3s and man the post, and we should be better defensively than last year which in turn will produce more Ws.

Darnell Rogers should be the main focus of our defensive plan. Rogers is the classic short (or extra short at 5'2") guard/GU killer of games past. We've seen this too many times.
Last year, he averaged 42% from 3 before getting injured, and had games of 7-13 vs. Nicholls, but 0-6 vs. LSU. Is Rogers similar to Blair in going hot/cold? We don't want to find out.
Who is our best perimeter defender? I've read that Kobe can defend multiple positions, Jalen and Dante are quick and that Carey is a good defender. Keep Blair away from him. Rogers deserves special attention all game long.
We need a strong defensive start to set the tone for the rest of the season, however long that is.

Big Tim will at least get 10 pts, 10 rebs, 5 blocks I'm excited, too, but let's keep it in the realm of possibility. Any of those individually would probably be a very solid outing.

I'm excited, too, but let's keep it in the realm of possibility. Any of those individually would probably be a very solid outing. Who makes you qualified to determine possibility? Tim is more likely to reach those numbers than whatever it is you have in your imagination... The backup center on any team having a double double is an incredibly unlikely event. The backup center having a double double in the first game of the season is equally unlikely. A player having five blocks in a game is already incredibly unlikely. The backup center doing that would be even more incredible. Tim had four blocks last season. Getting five here would beat his last season total. Tim had zero games last season where he scored ten points or had ten rebounds. Doing all three in one game is very unrealistic if you ask me. Now, people expect him to take a big jump, but doing all this in his first game seems like a huge ask. Lets be more patient here and see him play first before predicting these things. Also, again, if I/nychoya said Tim gets 8, 6,1 (he only beat 6 rebounds once and eight would tie his career high, along with the one block) you'd say Tim is more likely to have 10-10-5?

I am pretty sure this is a just a message board, and there are no qualifications, certifications, or prerequisites for determining or expressing an opinion on possibilities. That said, I would tend to agree with others that a double-double from Ighoefe today is far-fetched, but I would love to see it. I think it would be fair to say it is much more likely Wahab will hit a double-double this season before Ighoefe.

Only 2 pages of discussion for the first game of the season, where are my Hoyas at!?!
I get its been a weird offseason: no Kenner, an odd open practice, not as much media. Plus we have the COVID uncertainty to deal with.
No matter what is going on, knowing I get to see the guys rocking Blue and Grey on TV in less then an hour makes any day better.
Since there is no in-person attendance, this would be a great year to bring back the HoyaTalk HoyaChat.
I've already commented on the game a page back but no matter what happens, I want to see intensity and fight from the boys.
GO HOYAS!

Trying to mix it up, I’m attempting to limit comments/checking this board to pre and post games this year. If I can change this behavior, I’m hoping then maybe we can change our PnR defensive strategies.
