Much of HS basketball does not use any shot clock. It is not uncommon for teams to run a "4 corners" kind of game plan to shorten games, especially when they feel they are at a talent disadvantage. I have no idea if that is what happened here, but the score leads me to think that this could be a possibility.

I saw a tweet describing them as the “top two teams,” which is why I found the score so odd.

I seem to remember a Georgetown game a few years ago with a score just as ugly 😂
I’m just glad we won the game or else that memory would be truly awful

I have no idea if that is what happened here, but the score leads me to think that this could be a possibility. I am not familiar with the high school rules in the state he plays in, but a lot of states do not have a shot clock for high school basketball. It really is a shame that a shot clock does not become standard throughout the entire country, because it really changes the dynamics of the game if one team wants to slow the game down significantly. What should be an exciting athletic event becomes a slow chess match in some cases. I don't know if that is what happened here but from the final score I assume it might have been the case. I am not blaming the coach of the team that decided to slow the game down. The job of coaches in a big game like that is to find the best way for your team to win the game and if they felt the best chance for them to compete was to slow the game down, and the rules allow for it, then the coach is just doing his job. It is really a rule that needs to change nationally. In most states it is a just a monetary issue, with schools not wanting to have to pay for the new equipment (shot clocks and controllers) needed and having to pay one extra person the run the shot clock during the game. I understand economics are tight in many school districts but keeping this rule is not helping their athletes, especially the ones that have hopes off playing in college.

I recall watching Pallotti almost beat a loaded DeMatha team in the 1998 WCAC Championship with Dave Morris going into slow-down mode. It happens in HS.

We beat SMU in ‘84 37-36....that’s the lowest score I can remember. SMU was our first game in the championship year. We came that close to not moving on. Game was not televised where I live. Periodic updates were torture. Jon Koncak.

Yeah this is stupid, opposing teams have played the 4 corners strategy against Greenfield. Prime example of why these types of kids don't normally stay and play in these kinds of leagues.

The team they lost to is a very good, undersized, white suburban team that slows it down. Previously beat them 46-31 early in the season and beat them in state playoffs in the 40s last year. The one time Greenwood got past them was a 73-71 win Aminu's sophomore year en route to a State Championship. I believe Aminu had 28 and 20 that game. He had 8 and 10 in his two games vs. Hartville this year, a testament to the way they approached Greenwood. I saw on twitter that they had a 2+ minute possesion in the last 5 minutes of the game, forcing Greenwood to foul.
At the end of the day, Aminu finishes just shy of 3,300 points for his career when you consider the 29 consider games he played at Carroll. A ludicrous number that would rival or shatter state scoring records just about throughout the country. For reference, Mac broke the VA record with a little over 2,800.
I ended up watching a lot of Aminu after his commitment and despite the prolific numbers and widespread accolades, some of the criticism of his game is fair. I believe Bossi wrote an article and it was pretty spot on.
The good: almost everything. He's an elite athlete and although he doesn't have the verticality of a Riley, he possesses strength and control that is pretty rare of a wing at his age. His handle is good and with seasoning he could be an option as a primary ball0handler but for now, he's able to show control in the open court and in isolation that is impressive. In transition, he's unstoppable and a good decision maker. This will be refreshing as the current roster has left a lot of open court points on the floor this year. He doesn't need to pass much in high school and his teammates are at a level far lower than him but from what I saw he has the vision and unselfishness to be a guy that makes all the right plays at the next level which is encouraging. Defensively, I can't imagine him not being a stud. He couples that athleticism with extremely strong hands, a willingness to play hard, and he's a very quick leaper. His strength and hands allow him to get rebounds around taller players.
The needs improvement: The jump shot. This is what worries me (or encourages me depending on how you look at it). He's pretty inconsistent from the line and while he shows an ability to make tough shots, he misses far more than he makes. He tends to fade away when he doesn't need to and has a tendency to airball tough shots. He could really benefit from Coach Crouch.
In the end, I don't think this is a bad thing as I think it may really hinder his one and done aspirations. And two years of this kid could change your program. He's not Dwayne Wade but I see a lot of similarities between him and guys that were great guys for their respective teams. I've said it on twitter before but think Bruce Brown (Miami) or a bigger and better Jordan Goodwin (currently at St. Louis)

Nothing tops the Auburn-Mississippi State football game from 2008. Final score: 3-2.

Some of the guys that will be on the Nigerian national team. Not sure how the trials work/if Aminu will get to meet them and pick their brains, but worth keeping an eye on
