There will be no 2020 cross country this fall in addition to soccer, volleyball, and field hockey..
Notice from AD Lee Reed:
Today the BIG EAST Conference and its member institutions announced that due to the unprecedented and continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, fall sports and competition will not be conducted for 2020. This affects men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball and field hockey. The fall competition for sports in their non-traditional seasons, which includes baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s tennis will not be held.

This stinks, but as has been said elsewhere, it's necessary in the current conditions.
Wear the damn mask and observe social distancing, people, so we* can have an indoor season (and, of course, a basketball season)!
*I should clarify that the "we" I had in mind when I used the word was the most broad and inclusive use, composed of athletes, coaches, student, the university community, and fans.

Not XC but a result from sheasdad of the Sunset Tour#2
1 Edward Cheserek Sketchers 27:42.69 2 Girma Mecheso American Distance Project 27:49.53 3 Ben Flanagan Reebok Boston TC 28:06.88 4 Connor Mantz BYU 28:07.70 5 Ben Blankenship Nike Oregon Track Club 28:08.20 6 Frank Lara Roots Running Project 28:10.64 7 Zach Panning Hansons-Brooks ODP 28:16.95 8 Robert Brandt UCLA 28:22.99 Our new recruit; maybe it should say Georgetown instead of UCLA. 9 Connor McMillan Adidas 28:28.65 10 Biya Simbassa Nike 28:29.96 11 Ian La Mere Hansons-Brooks ODP 28:47.07 12 Clayton Young Asics 28:47.59 13 John Reniewicki Bell Lap 28:59.32 14 Abdisamed Abdi Hansons-Brooks ODP 29:00.55 15 Jacob Heslington Runner's Corner 29:07.89 16 Willie Milam Roots Running Project 29:12.81 17 Ben Kendell Hansons-Brooks ODP 29:14.38 18 Joe Stilin Zap Endurance-On Running 29:41.86 19 Nico Montanez On Mammoth Track Club 29:41.91 DNF Farah Abdulkarim Unattached
If Robert's time is associated with Georgetown, it would be a new GU record, as Dan Nunn has the present record of 28:24.10.

Robert was upset that these results had him listed as UCLA, instead of Georgetown. Coach Bonsey has been coaching him since April. And yes, his time is a new Georgetown 10,000m record.

Back to XC. There is some consideration for holding the XC season starting in Jan.
No formal dates have been set, but Monday March 15 and Tuesday March 16 have emerged as potential dates for a rescheduled Division I NCAA XC Championships. The regular season and qualifying window for nationals would run from January 16 to March 5. The qualifying criteria has yet to be established, but a task force is in place to determine how teams will advance to NCAAs.
One potential roadblock, aside from the pandemic, is that such a revised schedule would conflict with the indoor track and field season. According to one source, student athletes would not be able to compete in both cross country and indoor track, with the latter typically hosting its national championships around the same dates as those currently proposed for cross country.

It is official: Georgetown Track XC @hoyastrackxc · Aug 30 ICYMI: Graduate Student Robert Brandt clocks 28:22 over 10,000m last night in Los Angeles! In his first race as a Hoya, Brandt dipped under Dan Nunn's Georgetown record of 28:24 set in 2009.

The Stride Report has rankings of team as if the season were on. The men came in as an honorable mention:
Georgetown Hoyas Much like conference rival Villanova, the men from Washington, D.C. lose a handful of top veteran scorers to expired eligibility. According to TFRRS, they'll no longer have the services of Jack Van Scoter, Spencer Brown and Matthew Bouthillette.
But also like Villanova, they have a ton of depth and plenty of youngsters.
They still have a respectable front-runner in Nicholas Wareham as well as a handful of guys from last year's lineup who were inexperienced underclassmen last fall.
There is a lot of upside with this group, but it's not totally clear who will step up or who the other members of this projected top seven will be (whenever we next have a cross country season).
The Hoyas are a traditionally great team and it's hard to bet against history. Even so, there is too much uncertainty for us to give them a preseason ranking.
It is not clear that Jack Van Scoter is not coming back, as he is training with the team in Flagstaff. Too bad Robert Brandt is not eligible to XC. Spencer is definitely gone. I haven't heard anything about Matt.

The Hoyas are not running XC, at least for now. But other teams/conferences seem to be competing. Coach Milt at UNC has a good team, at least on the women's side.
Freshman Sasha Neglia finished first, senior Paige Hofstad was second and six Tar Heels were among the top nine runners as the UNC women's cross country team started the season off with a win on Friday at the Virginia Invite.
Paige transfered from Georgetown.

More on Robert Brandt. He did a mile time trial in Phoenix and with Jantz Tostensen, Jack Salisbury, and Matt Payamps pacing him over a little more that 1K, he ran a 58 s last lap to come in with a 3:58. Not bad off of 10,000m training. He will run a 10,000m race (fast heat) on Dec. 5 at 10pm PST. He would like to better his previous Georgetown record and even go under 28 minutes.

The Sound Running Track Meet will be held on Dec.5. Robert is in the fast heat of the 10,000m at 10:05 pm PST. The heat is loaded with a bunch of Kenyan born runners and Pat Tiernan, Nova 4 time BE XC champs and NCAA XC champ, and Australian Morgan McDonald, among other runners. This heat is right after the women's fast heat at 10,000m with Rachel Schneider.

Even though the Georgetown runners are not officially running as a team in XC, that doesn't mean that they are not running as inviduals, like Robert. Three of our women runners are also listed for the Sound Running Track Meet. All three are listed are entrees in the Sub-15:30 heat of the 5000m on Dec. 4 at 9:05 PST. They are Katie Dammer, Kate Modrell, anbd Sami Corman.

Katie Dammer and Sami Corman ran the 5000m at the track meet. Most of the entrees were pro athletes. I think there was only one other college runner. Sami and Katie fell off the back at about 3000m.
13. Sami 16:33.55 14. Katie 16:49.49

Robert Brandt set the Georgetown 10,000m record again. All before setting foot on the campus. His time is 27:39.20 and he finished 8th in a elite lineup. He punched his ticket to the Olympic Trials.

Robert's time of 28:39 is #10 all-time by a collegian. And what about Rachel Schneider? Wow!

From AD Lee Reed: We have consulted with University leadership and our medical professionals, and pending public health conditions, we plan to return additional Athletics programs in January. Along with our basketball teams, we plan to return men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s track & field/cross country to campus for training and competition.
