EXCERPTS Of the 12 players who remained with the team following the transfer of four players in December, nine were selected to the Big East All-Academic teams in a conference announcement Monday. The team recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better grade point average last season...While many GU sports regularly salute this accomplishment among their teams, men's basketball generally has not, but this is an opportunity to do so. Congratulations to:Terrell Allen, Chuma Azinge, Tim Ighoefe, Mac McClung, Jagan Mosely, George Muresan, Jaden Robinson, Qudus Wahab,Malcolm Wilson------------Thanks DFW for posting this story on the main board. GU SHOULD make a point of celebrating this. Reflects very well on the team, and on Head Coach Patrick Ewing who earned his own GU degree in... fine arts I believe. 9 out of 12! That is really quite noteworthy. CONGRATULATIONS to the GU Nine! www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bball.htm

Will this help us dig out of the APR hole that we got ourselves into? No. The PR gives one point for retention and one point for eligibility, so eight players would have two points and McClung would count for one. We can assume but do not know if the four left as eligible; also we do not know if Myron Gardner ended up at a junior college for academic reasons or that he couldn't get a transfer offer anywhere. The former would affect the APR, the latter would not. From the NCAA: "The APR is calculated as follows: Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate. In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability. Teams must earn a four-year average APR of 930 to compete in championships." www.ncaa.org/about/resources/research/academic-progress-rate-explained

It just brings up McClung for me. Is he regretting the terrible advice to leave GU yet?

Muresan, Robinson and Azinge. Hence five will get us 2 points each and one (McClung) will get us 1 -- academically eligble but transferred out. Nonetheless, 9 of 12 Hoyas is a positive for the team and, of course, for the players

How does the APR handle seniors who complete their eligibility but fail to obtain a degree? How about graduate transfers who play one year and leave school without attaining a graduate degree?

It just brings up McClung for me. Is he regretting the terrible advice to leave GU yet? That won't happen until/unless he fails at PG duties. He does well enough to get drafted he won't regret his decision. Let's just wish him well unless at some point he faces GTown....

If he did this well here he'll likely have more time for basketball at TTU
