We're GREAT at these "FINAL [X NUMBER]" lists. Assuming/Hoping that we are 1 of the 2 finals teams any guess on who the other school will be? Dayton? Temple? ASU? Rumblings that it is between us & ASU.

From what little I've seen, he reminds me a lot of Pickett (mostly good, some bad). He has decent athleticism, but it seems a little uncoordinated/unnatural at times. Unsure how much of the slashing will translate to the next level in the early going, but may develop as he matures/develops. Even the defense is similar: shot-blocking will be more difficult in 1v1 post situations vs. taller/better players, but will be useful as a weakside help defender that can deter shots. Will be interesting to see how his defensive IQ is and whether or not he can be the versatile defender we need to close out on perimeter shooters but hold his own in the paint. Will he be able to execute Ewing's preferred defensive scheme is a big question. Two areas that appear to be a step up from Pickett: motor and shooting mechanics. Like Riley, Billingsley appears to be OK with inviting contact and appears less passive mentality wise. Shooting also looks much more fluid. Although the mid-range game looks solid, we're not going to want him to be shooting too many of those. Pickett routinely burns us with low percentage 16-17 foot jumpers. We badly need a 4 in the worst way, so I would be pretty happy with this pickup (especially if Adams doesn't work out). I agree with your 1st paragraph but not the 2nd. His motor more than anything stood out as a concern. He gets beat for a lot of rebounds through lack of effort. He doesn't put in a lot of effort on offense until he gets the ball in his hands. His shooting stroke looks fine but he has no lift on his 3 point shot. I could see that being a problem at the next level. That plus the fact that according to the breakdown video he's only a 32% 3 shooter makes me believe he's better served as a traditional 4. He wants to be a stretch 4 but he is not there yet. He is effective around the hoop although it's pretty herky jerky right now. If he embraces it I could definitely see him becoming a great small ball 5 on offense. He has the vision and passing ability to pass out of the post and a good enough shot to keep teams honest. He will also be a great asset against a 2-3 being the free throw line guy. This is a really helpful assessment. Again, hard to tell from just highlights but if his motor shows up as a concern over extended play, that's not good. Agree that although the stroke is solid and looks repeatable, it's not a quick release and is susceptible to being pressured by good perimeter defenders that aren't there at the HS level. Both above items are comments that have applied to Pickett in the past as well. The post passing and potential face up game in the middle of a zone would be a nice bonus and a skill set that doesn't currently exist on this squad.

His lift on his jumper looks fine to me. A lot of the best shooters from distance don't really jump very high at all. When your 6'9 how much lift do you really need. It's not like Markus Howard or somebody. Personally I think 32% from 3 as a junior in HS is pretty solid for a kid his size and bodes well for the future.
Agree about his motor. Needs to play harder and with more toughness but I think he understands that based on his comments in the video.

I think he has all the tools to be a really good player in this league. He's got a lot of skills and it really comes down to how bad he wants it.

Does anyone have a comp for this kid in terms of recent Georgetown players? The obvious one that comes to mind is Marcus Derrickson but their physical profile was very different. Both had the smoothness and range, though Billingsley might be a tad bit more athletic.

Im hopeful we can add Jalin. These are exactly the kind of guys we should be recruiting right now. A little under the radar guys who are borderline 4 stars that appear to be on the rise and could very well end up top 100.
These are commits that are 3 and 4 year guys who commit early, want to be Hoyas, and have high ceilings. They also don't scare off 5 star guys in terms of playing time.
These are exactly the type of guys the last few years we didn't make priorities early going for the bigger fish, whiffed, and then were late to the party on them making lists but not getting commitments.
If they can get Jalin to commit, now you can afford to go all in on an Aminu. A Beard, Billingsley, Riley, Aminu class would be top 10ish in the country.

I like this kid in my opinion he looks more athletic then KJ Adams, Adams looks stiff. Honestly, he looks like a taller heavier Kobe Clark with the same tenacity.

Jalin fits right in with the other J's: Jordan, Jahvon, Jamorko, Jaden, Jalen and Jamari - not to mention last year's Jagan.

Heβs unorthodox but knows how to use his body and has a nice mix of power and finesse. Skilled ball player. He may have to adjust to the speed of BE play...but in time could see him being a solid contributor.
