I don't agree, but I HOPE your right about starting mid season. Otto began to be a terror at the end of his Freshman season. I don't see the polish Otto had coming in being just so fundamentally sound, which Sibley is not. I didn't say he was as good as Otto but he doesn't have to be because this team doesn't have the talent that Otto's freshman year team had... there's no Hollis, Whitt or Brilly stealing minutes.... I understood you weren't comparing if he was as good as Otto (1st Team AA & BE POY). When you mentioned he would start mid season, I just didn't agree because he is not as fundamentally sound as Otto was. Even without Hollis, Whitt or Brilly stealing minutes, he will still would have to push a seasoned vet out of their spot. Without experience or polish, I just don't see it even if his competition is not as talented. For the record, I always respect your opinion and hope you prove to be right. If you are correct, we have a player on our hands.

I get the Otto comparison (re: FR yr improvement), but I'd call it more of an Ike situation. (Tough to pin anyone w/ a comparison to an AA.)
Ike had a slow start but 20 games into his FR year had supplanted Mikael in the starting lineup. Sure - that didn't turn out the way we wanted it. But it was pretty obvious early on that Ike on his best day was a better option than Hopkins. I think we'll see that again this year.
I think people are sleeping on Sibley's talent level a bit. He was 2nd banana to J Johnson at Nicolet as a JR and still scored 19/g and was 2nd team all state. Last year he basically played on a HS all-star team and his personal stats took a hit b/c of it.
The bottom line is: he'll raise our talent level. With regards to what's being discussed in the 3-point shooting thread, offensive & defensive 3PFG percentages have more to do with team play than anything else. Yes - you need some guys who CAN shoot threes. But mostly you need talent around them -- inside & out -- to let them flourish.
The more efficient (read: better) your offensive players are, interior or perimeter, the better your percentages will be. And that matters far more than how many 3s you're getting to the rim. Look again at the top teams in the country - a majority of them don't shoot more 3s than the average team. But almost all of them shoot them more accurately.
