This is the 1st NBA matchup between Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning when Charlotte played at New York on December 10, 1992. The video also includes a pre-game feature in which Ewing, Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo talk about their Georgetown bond.

Thank you very much for this video. I was hesitant to watch it at first. I never liked watching "my guys" go to war, someone had to lose. It was good to see Wingate. 3 of the 10 starters were ours, oh what a time. I am a huge NYK fan, it was great seeing the Knicks in our heyday. I am only in the first quarter, but Pitts Charles Smith is invisible (like the Game 7 Bulls match-up that is forever etched in my memory).
I know this is off topic, but I don't see how a big wouldn't want to go here to learn from one of the best. I realize we are 28 years later and some aspects of the game have changed, but the object is to score from anywhere on the court and stop your opponent from scoring. If you have the ability, Coach will enhance it. I know I am really off topic now, but have you seen the concerns that some collegiate athletes have with their respective Universities regarding the current climate? Georgetown has been dealing with this for almost 50 years. It is not just the flavor of the month. That is why I fell in love with the men and women who made up this program. They continue to cultivate men we can be proud of.
Sorry to get carried away. Oh never mind....

Starters for the Knicks: Ewing, Oakley, Smith, Rolano and Doc Coming off the bench: Mase, Starks, Greg Anthony, Hubert Davis, Herb Wiliams.
The Hornets were just as nice Starters: Muggsy, Gill, Wingate, Larry Johnson and Mourning Bench: Dell Curry, Kenny attison, Johnny Newman, Kevin Lynch (JR Reid just got traded) . Thanks again for the walk down memory lane. . Spoiler alert, both of our warriors have great games, but Coach is victorious. Coach's turn around game and jumper...exceptional!!!

The uploader appears to be a HUGE Knicks fan because he has a bunch of games from the glory years(1991-1995) of Ewing's Knicks teams. Ewing played on some very good Knicks teams before and after that time frame, but the Knicks were at an elite, championship level during those 4 years and Ewing was in his prime. I posted this game here because anyone who was a Georgetown alum, student or fan in 1992 must have really been excited for this game when you consider that Ewing and Mourning both entered Georgetown as highly rated, program-changing type of players, and both of them lived up to/exceeded the hype by dominating for 4 years. I haven't watched much of the game, but I did attempt to run the curser along the bottom of the screen to see if John Thompson Jr. was at the game or interviewed. It doesn't look like he was there, Georgetown must have had a game that night for him to miss it
Charles Smith is an interesting case because he dominated in college, was selected 3rd overall in the 1988 draft and was close to being a 20/10 guy with the Clippers, but on the Knicks he was invisible and/or diminished for much of his time there. Was it a case of him taking a back seat to Ewing or was he really a limited player who could put up All-Star numbers on a bad team?
About Mourning and the Hornets, when this game took place, you would have thought that the Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning combination would dominate the NBA and possibly win a title or 2 for the rest of the 90's, but injuries to Larry Johnson, and possibly some bad blood between LJ and Mourning pretty much ended the championship hopes of the LJ/Mourning-led Hornets by 1995!!
I'm assuming that Omer Yurtseven came to Georgetown(instead of turning pro) so he could learn from Patrick Ewing. Even though Ewing's prime was in the 80's and 90's, lots of his games and highlights are up on youtube and other sites, so it will be easy for recruits to see how dominant he was and want to play for him.
I'll get way off topic with you about the current climate, when John Thompson Jr. turned Georgetown into a powerhouse, the national perception seemed to be that Georgetown was really a black school. Of course, those in the know, understood that wasn't the case at all. Also, I've heard former players like Mark Tillmon mention how JTII would always talk to the team about social/racial issues, so I'm not sure that Georgetown players were encouraged to "Shut Up And Dribble" like black players at other schools may have been by their white coaches.

Sorry I am just seeing your response. Yes John Thompson and Mary Fenlon were at the game, they showed them at one break. The glory years.
Regarding social issues, I am sure Coach Ewing is talking about it and I am sure Coach JTII is there as well. I still don’t see how the parents and players don’t realize the benefits of learning from these living legends (and not just basketball). Perhaps “just win baby”.
