When building a winning program, you want guys like this on the team. Unsung heroes. They may not show up on the highlights, but the little things they do are just as important.

A lot of college coaches dig for these players and push hard to recruit them. Good to see Holloway and Carey in the handful of recent official Hoya off season players grinding highlights.

I have a gut feeling that Holloway is going to surprise a lot of us this year with his growth and contribution. I realize he saw very few minutes last year, but from what I recall, he had good form on his spot-up jumper (I don't recall him taking any jumpers off the dribble), and I remember his defense disrupting Robinson-Earl in the BET. He strikes me as the kind of player that plays bigger than his height, can muscle around under the basket, can "clean-up the garbage" and doesn't need plays called for him to have an impact. I'm not saying he'll be First Team All BE or even a starter, but I think he has all of the traits to become a fan favorite as a gritty, disruptive player that isn't afraid to do the dirty work on either end of the court. I could see him as a guy that bullies and pump fakes his way to a quiet 8 points and 6 rebounds without being a focal point of the offense.

Guys like Collin help winning programs. Very happy to see this.

I’ve been hyping up Collin in other forums, but I think he could bring a lot of what Kaleb Johnson did during his career. Switchable on D, holds his own against both bigs and perimeter guys. He showed some offensive prowess in HS but isn’t a jump out the gym athlete, so there’s obviously a ceiling here but I think the staff trusts him based on the run he got in the BET and he’ll be a factor this season.

I see more JB than KJ in him. Hopefully he stays after this year and becomes the Towson version by junior year.

Collin looks like he's been hitting the weights hard. Love it. He played very solid minutes in the BE Championship game. I'm looking forward to more of that.

Great game tonight (vs Longwood) by Holloway: 23 pts, 4 boards, 2 assists and only 1 turnover. 7 of 9 from the field, 2-2 3pts and 7-7 free throws in 24 min.
It was just one game but he sure looked like more of a difference maker tonight than Billingsly has so far, so maybe he'll get to start sooner rather than later.

Holloway played a heck of a game! We are still a work in progress, for sure.

Holloway’s not as tall (and probably way too early to make this comparison) but there was a little of a Jeremiah Robinson Earl vibe from him last night.

He seems to play with great poise and doesn't try to do things that he is not capable of doing. Seems to be in the right place at the right time. I don't think you can play him as the 5 in conference play (just not long enough to protect the rim), but he should be able to do some damage playing as a power forward against some teams because of his strength and sound fundamentals. He does Ok playing his man on defense in the post because of his strength and good positioning, but some guys are going to just shoot over the top of him if he is covering centers.

Poise is a right, he doesn't seem to get sped up. I believe his game will carry over to conference play a well. He's similar to Harper at Rutgers or Samuel's at Nova or Nze at Butler...

Which would you rather see: bigger guys trying to shoot over Holloway in the post, or open three point shooters firing away because our 7 foot center based defense has been broken down by simple ball movement? even though our small ball defense was bad in the second half last night - we were giving up 2s instead of 3s. there may well be situations when we are better off letting teams try to beat our small ball defense with post ups against Holloway/Billingsly rather than seeing teams get a bunch of open 3s against our 7 foot center based defense.

No doubt they left way too many guys open last night for easy 3's when the 7 footers were in the game, but they also left those guys open too often with the smaller lineup. My biggest issue with the defense when you have a guy like Tim in the lineup is that the Hoyas do not need to have as many guys help on penetration as they do now. If a player is getting beat off the dribble they should be trying to force the offensive player toward Tim and make them try to score over Tim. Right now it looks like they have 2-3 guys trying to sag and help on drives and that is what is leading to the wide open shots. Let the 7' centers be the anchor in the paint and let other teams try to make tough 2 pointers, instead of giving up easy 3's. I realize it is a different story when the other team puts our centers in a pick and roll and tries to drag them away from the basket, but last night I did not see that much of that action going on. Longwood also didn't seem to have too many of the their forwards who were looking to take 3's, so the centers did not need to chase them too far out. I won't pretend to have all the answers but the defense needs to improve, and quickly.

Halloway reminds me Villanova's basketball players with all his skills, pump fakes and stop and go. Very high BASKETBALL IQ. Wish the rest of the team can learn from him. Also, loosing on Tre King is a big lost for Patrick Ewing plans.
