Kenner is often announced two weeks or so before it starts, which is end of June or early July.

Any word on Kenner? I'll even take a rumor. Just trying to plan out the summer weekends - would love to have one weekend reserved for Kenner.

We are loaded with talent and haven’t had this level of athleticism and speed in quite some time.

Say it isn’t so. I miss having all the freshmen on the Tombs.

If true that is really unfortunate.

That would be really sad if true as I’m really excited about the season and combined with the covid pause i probably would’ve attended every session.

While I live far away and have never been able to attend, I hope that RockHoya was on the wrong street as I have long enjoyed the write ups throughout the summer.

A couple weeks ago former local high school players now playing D1 out of town were talking at a night of runs about putting teams together for local summer tournaments and when asked about Kenner they had said it hadn't been ruled out, but the decision was a week or two away. There was also discussion of Nike sponsoring something at Da Matha, but with Capitol Hoops running longer this year it wasn't certain that would happen.
People I knew that helped organize it haven't been tied to it since Ewing arrived, but for the first two years they knew the dates and teams early.

Wasn't there one time in the 70's when the Kenner league was played outside? Or, is my vision and recollection blurry because I was a kid at that time? I just remember that the summer leagues games back in the day with all the pros and college players were played outside? Couldn't they revisit or visit that concept this summer??

Why can't they have Kenner? Everything is opening up. Just have socially distanced seating or something.

The outdoor was a different league played in SouthEast, but that stopped a 2 or 3 years ago.

I don't know what happened in the 90's but I know that they were doing it back in the 70's and 80's. That Anacostia/Barry Farms one that you're talking about, I knew about that when I lived over in that area a few years ago. If it stopped 2 or 3 years ago, that was a good run. Anyways, we need to bring summer league basketball back to the city or make it in Maryland or whatever.

Nike puts up the sponsorship and does some other behind the scenes work a preparation. Other Nike Pro City leagues don't seem to be happening this summer or haven't given their dates. Nearly all of them had their last comment summer of 2019. Without Nike Pro City there is no Kenner, unless another sponsor can step in. The sponsorship isn't much, but is enough for the basics. Uniforms, (often) shoes, refs, facility fees, and those at the scorer's table are covered in the fees and that is about it. I don't remember if coaches are paid out of that or not or even if they get paid through Kenner.

Kenner has always been at Georgetown, but the pre-cursor to it was another league held at MacNamera and another high school near there in the 80s and prior, the Urban Coalition. Kenner never was outside.
