I don’t know if Julian Vaughn is under or over rated but I do know he did not average 13 points a game.

Over: Jabril Trawick- fake tough guy with zero skills Under: David Wingate- Just balled his ass off Trawick was a legitimately solid player- and his toughness was not fake. I am amazed that any Hoya fan could have animus toward Jabril. No animus here, but I am also surprised by the Trawick cult that has built up among some Hoya fans. He was a solid 7th/8th man type in the Big East. Loved his spirit, but he just wasn’t very good.

Thank you for the validation. PMc - Great story - one of the best in the last 50 years of Hoya BBall (LA kid, boxer, scrapper, valedictorian, G turned F, Head Miracle...). Good player. Julian Vaughn - Solid, but certainly unspectacular big man. Per 40 avgs for Jr/Sr years (neither played much as FR/SO): Perry McDonald 15.87p, 8.7reb, 46.1%FG, 1.76 stl, .27 blk, 1/2 A:TO Julian Vaughn 13.12p, 8.9reb, 53.6%FG, .53 stl, 2.87 blk, 1/1.2 A:TO It's "cool" to have a guard play in the frontcourt (as a replacement for a big, not a 3-guard type). It's better to have a big guy play in the frontcourt. I didn’t realize Julian’s numbers were that good. To your point, perhaps he was underrated. That said, I just remember him really struggling towards the end of his senior season....wasn’t there a couple of games where he scored 0, 1 or 2 points? It was hard to watch. He certainly wasn't a star - he had his off nights. But his below the rim/lunchpail game doesn't lend itself to crazy highlights. Like Nate, people tend to focus on what he couldn't do more than what he could. With the talent around him - Wright, Freeman, Monroe, Clark, Hollis - he was a good complement. I mean, PMc WAS a better offensive (and overall) player than JV... but wasn't a guy who could knock down 18 footers or direct an offense. With that mess of a big man rotation we had at the time, there was a vacuum that PMc slid into and had success. With all the guards we had (Charles Smith, Tillmon, Bryant, JJackson, Winston), it's not a sure thing that he would've been a regular if he'd remained in the backcourt.

Perry is beloved because of the edge he brought to the game and his willingness to play big man minutes at 6’4” or 6’5”. Throw is his disgracing of Seikaly and there you have it.

Those things just add to the lore.

A few posts back the Jabrill “cult” was mentioned. I just want to ask a question regarding the Nat Burton “generation”. What was that all about? Was it because of the tournament game winner? I mean Burton was literally a JAG...

Dwayne Bryant in season ending NCAA tournament games:
Temple. 1-5 FG 3 points 4 TO 0 Assists
Providence 8 points 2 assists 2 TO
Duke 2 points 3 assists
Xavier 6 points 3-9 FG 3 TO 3 Assists
Bryant did not make a 3 point shot in these games and played significant minutes in all of them. OVERRATED.
