From a winning perspective.
Over-- Greg monroe. #1 recruit didn't win anything of significance.
Under-- Jonathan Wallace. Almost walk on four year starter hit the big shot against UNC to put is in the final four. Never missed a shot. Yet never mentioned as one of our more talented guards.

Wasn’t Kenny Brunner like the most overrated. One day he was playing and next day gone. Without social media and limited internet there was no information as to WTF happened.

Brunner was a remarkable talent and was not overrated. However, there was anecdotal information, even in the Bill Shapland media era, that Brunner was in some sort of trouble on campus before he skipped out.

Over: Joey Brown Under: Jerome Williams
Edit: I got caught up in the thread and ignored the #1 parts. From reading the posts, I can only assume several others did the same. Zero chance either Joey or JYD were #1 over and under.

Underrated: Michael Jackson. He may have been the 2nd most valuable player on the team behind Ewing in the 3 years they played together. His name hasn’t even been mentioned here....we talk about Reggie, Wingate, Horace, Graham, Perry.....leads me to think he is being underrated.

Over: Jabril Trawick- fake tough guy with zero skills Under: David Wingate- Just balled his ass off Trawick was a legitimately solid player- and his toughness was not fake. I am amazed that any Hoya fan could have animus toward Jabril.

Players like Gene Smith, Perry McDonald and Jabril Trawick aren’t going to wow anyone on the offensive end, but set the tone defensively and mentally. Hard to measure, but impactful.

Underrated: Julian Vaughn Overrated: Perry McDonald I’d flip these two. Thank you for the validation. PMc - Great story - one of the best in the last 50 years of Hoya BBall (LA kid, boxer, scrapper, valedictorian, G turned F, Head Miracle...). Good player. Julian Vaughn - Solid, but certainly unspectacular big man. Per 40 avgs for Jr/Sr years (neither played much as FR/SO): Perry McDonald 15.87p, 8.7reb, 46.1%FG, 1.76 stl, .27 blk, 1/2 A:TO Julian Vaughn 13.12p, 8.9reb, 53.6%FG, .53 stl, 2.87 blk, 1/1.2 A:TO It's "cool" to have a guard play in the frontcourt (as a replacement for a big, not a 3-guard type). It's better to have a big guy play in the frontcourt.

It's better to have a big guy play in the frontcourt. I didn’t realize Julian’s numbers were that good. To your point, perhaps he was underrated. That said, I just remember him really struggling towards the end of his senior season....wasn’t there a couple of games where he scored 0, 1 or 2 points? It was hard to watch.
