At this rate, I would be surprised if they even play tonight. It is possible to do an NCAA tournament without conference champions, but it increasingly looks unlikely to happen this year. I thought the NCAA would hang on to the last minute since they stand to lose so much money, but things might be too far for them to save it. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't come out for 2nd half Called it

Beyond nuts. Let's just shut down society for the next three months in an abundance of caution.

Conference is one St. John's-Creighton player and/or staff with a positive test away from inheriting an enormous PR nightmare. They better pray that doesn't happen.

So if we can't go to the NCAA, maybe nobody else. What a year!

I'm going to keep updating the first post in this thread until the NCAA does the right thing and cancels this season's tournament...which may well be within the next two or three hours.

Our good friends in Durham NC have announced that they are suspending all athletic participation indefinitely. If there was any question about whether the NCAA tournament will be conducted, this should seal the deal.

If there was any question about whether the NCAA tournament will be conducted, this should seal the deal. "In light of the rapidly developing circumstances with regard to COVID-19, Duke University is immediately suspending all athletic competition for the foreseeable future, President Vincent E. Price announced on Thursday. This suspension covers all sports, all competition and all practices." today.duke.edu/2020/03/duke-suspends-athletic-competitionsWonder how long it will take Degioia, Reed and folks to follow suit.

Kansas has joined Duke in suspending athletic competition. NCAA, are you listening?

How does that affect scholarship limits? If the seniors all get an additional year of eligibility, doesn't that impact incoming freshmen scholar/athletes? I don't see that happening...giving an additional year of eligibility in exchange for one or two missed tournament games seems disproportional to me.

I don't see any suggestion that it would only apply to teams that were still alive in conference tourneys. It won't happen anyway. They would either have to expand scholarship limits to allow committed recruits to be added,or void LOI'S and other commitments, which would in turn be unfair to kids who have committed and expect to play at the school of their choice in the Fall. Not to mention that seniors have played 75% or more of the season already.

Not to mention that seniors have played 75% or more of the season already. It would certainly require an expansion of scholarships available to schools. But this issue certainly extends beyond basketball to all of the spring sports that just started their seasons.

Not to mention that seniors have played 75% or more of the season already. Interesting idea, but I think it likely won't happen. Practically speaking, this will not prevent the top guys from leaving and getting their first round guaranteed NBA contracts (unless they postpone the draft, very possible). One area where I do think this is relevant is guys thinking about going into the draft, like Yurtseven, who will either be second round or go undrafted. Why would you leave to play professionally, when there is a good chance those professional leagues will not even play? Aside from Yurtseven, I think this basically has zero affect on us given that we have nobody else who would leave for that reason. Further, allowing another year of eligibility would mean that a ton of seniors would effectively become eligible for graduate transfers (unless the rules were changed, also very possible in that scenario). In virtually every way in our lives, this really, really stinks (most importantly so for those who become ill and their families). And, there are definitely going to be unfair things that happen in sports and certainly outside of sports. Frankly, a senior not getting to play the NCAA tournament might be unfair and disappointing to that person, but it's really a minor issue in the overall scheme of things. To me, the bigger college basketball issue is will we even have anything resembling a basketball season in 2020-2021? I think we will, but whereas it would not have even been debatable a week ago, suddenly not much seems certain.

Terrell Allen would be the greatest graduate transfer we could hope for. I will blindly continue to hope for another year of Terrell.
