Meanwhile in the last chance meet at Boston U on Thursday and Friday, some of the Hoyas will be running to try to get an NCAA qualifying time.

Well, I like the idea of giving the team a shot at the last chance meet (and it's good that BU is hosting one, given the weird overlap of conference meets and declaration deadline), but splitting the squad into the two DMRs is ... maybe a little odd? I mean, I guess it's more shots at a time, but is anyone worried about watering it down?
Whatever, forget I said anything. TTS! Go Hoyas!

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the B team is there to pace the opening 1200m.

That is what I was thinking; and maybe the B team will be there to make it competitive, at least till the final leg. Middle Tennessee will be there too with three Kenyans on the team.

The Middle Tennessee DMR team is the same one that finished #4 at the Indiana Relays in 9:37 (Georgetown was #6)...this Last Chance meet has a lot of pro athletes (Koko trying to break the women' s European record in the 5K) and a large number of entries overall so the place should be rockin'...I'm going to try to get there for the DMR and stay for the Men's 5000 (Paul Chelimo, Ed Cheserek, Eric Jenkins etc.)...unfortunately the 1500s and 3000s are this afternoon...

I hope you will be rooting for Emily Infeld in the women's 5000m (should be with the leaders unless Koko goes crazy) and Collin Leibold in the men's 5000m (should not be with the leaders, but should be going for a good time).

Our time at BU plus Middle Tennessee's time leaves us in 13th place, odd man out, unless some conversion is applied.

Doing the math the splits are as follows:
Spencer Brown 1200m: 2:54.96 Lawrence Leake 400m: 46.137 Kenny Rowe 800m: 1:49.38 Nick Wareham 1600m: 4:03.06
Good runs by all, especially by Lawrence.

What a great performance by the DMR team! An excellent time and everyone ran well...the time of 9:33.56 was just a half second off the time recorded at last year's NCAA Championship for third place!! And if I'm not mistaken the Hoya qualifying time last year was 9:36.94??
What a totally different scene from my last visit to the BU track two weeks ago for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational...today I got there at 11am about an hour before the meet started (the men's DMR was the first event)...and I got a prime parking spot right in front of the field house...there was no one collecting admission and there were very few athletes in the stands and not many spectators...
There were only four teams in the DMR and Rauch for our B team was just there as an alternate and to pace Spencer's opening leg through 800...
It must have been a little difficult to run in the relatively empty and quiet field house but a back and forth battle with Middle Tennessee State kept it fast and very interesting...every leg was close and came down to the handoff...despite running sub 30 for the final 200 Nick fell off a bit from their runner in the very last lap but the two teams still finished within only one second...
I felt each Hoya runner ran a smart race and gave it their all.
I enjoyed watching the race with Kenny's parents.
I hope they make it!! If not they should be proud of their performance.

Thank you for the firsthand account! I agree with everything in your last line: I really hope the boys make it, but regardless of selection, every one of them ran a great race today and they should be very proud - and as a fan, I am proud of them!

Checked today, Sami is ranked 37th. She would have had to run 4:35 or so to be top 16. Qualifying standards roughly for the women were @ 2.05.X, 4.35X, 15.5X, 53 for 800/1500/5000/400. She probably has a decent shot next year. We did not really have anyone close to qualifying on the individual side for the women.

For the men Kenny Rowe was the closest to qualifying with a 1:49.55 800. His time was ranked 37th or 38th but was decently close to a 1:48.6X that would have been top 16. Again like Sami, Kenny probably has a shot at making it next yr. There was nobody else close to qualifying besides Kenny.
