Carino mailed it in. I think he’s been writing from his basement hideout for the last 5 years and the result is to be expected. We don’t however deserve the benefit of the doubt. Our play on the court needs to define who we are, not lazy predictions from preseason prognosticators. I love the Wooden quote the earlier in the thread.

I think his point was that it is a guard driven conference and much will be asked of those guys bc we don't have depth at guard. That will be fixed in 2021. I disagree because for SH he writes about Rhoden and Mamou.... not one mention of a current SH guard... He mentioned both Aiken and Molson, two starting guards for Seton Hall next season. Here they are, "so his work with prodigious Harvard grad transfer Bryce Aiken bears watching" " If Canisius transfer Takal Molson makes the leap from the MAAC like Quincy McKnight did from the NEC." With how Seton Hall loses Powell, McKnight, and Anthony Nelson, they return multiple guard/wings in Cale and Rhoden, and one guard in Shavar Reynolds. He does have to mention the newcomers just because that will be there backcourt. Also, the way he wrote about most teams didn't mention their better players. He didn't write about Bouknight for UCONN, or there best recruit in Andre Jackson, he wrote about Antwann Jones (4.7PPG at Memphis) over Ballock, Jefferson, Mahoney, Epperson, Bishop, etc., AJ Reeves and Nate Watson for Providence, Paul Scruggs, Kyky Tandy, and Zach Freemantle for Xavier, Dawson Garcia and Koby McEwen for Marquette, Romeo Weems for DePaul and Jamorko and Qudus for us. He just wrote about the guys he wanted to talk about. I don't think it showed any bias against one particular team or a lack of grasp of the conference, he just wrote about the guys he thought were either important or interesting to talk about. I don't think this discredits his predictions if you agree or don't.

Juggy is a complimentary player. I really hate when people throw out stats as if they are the be all end all. Basketball isn't baseball. Your teammates with most players make or break you. Juggy shot in the low 30s 3pt last season but you have to take into consideration that he started off super cold. Then JA quit the team and remarkably Juggy got super hot. Then as the season went on and playing 38+ mins caught up to him Juggy shot worse. I wrote all that to say Juggy will shoot high 30s if we have a good PG and we remain reasonably healthy.... How long have we been saying we need leadership on the team? The hope was that the departed trio of juniors would rise up to upperclassmen leaders. Since they couldn’t stand each other, we are left with just two returning upperclassmen. If Blair becomes more of a leader and plays within himself with good shot selection, efficiency in his 3pts in 20 mpg, and better defense than he has shown, then we’re a tournament (if there is one) contender. Am I putting too much on his shoulders?

The game is played on the court and not in the newspaper or online. We will compete, and we have talent, and confidence. I dont think we recruited anyone who will shrink under the spotlight. Let the games begin, go Hoyas!!!

If there was ever an NBA job that Jay Wright would leave for it’s the 76ers, which is now looking increasingly likely to be vacant in short order. Combined with COVID uncertainty, just saying....

That's the old Mike Krzyzewski argument, and he's never left. Wright's not leaving--the money won't be that much better and the headaches will be endless. Coaches know the grass is not greener on the pro side and they will get fired without remorse if the numbers aren't there. Rick Pitino was shown the door in four years. John Calipari, three, John Beilein, one. Jerry Tarkanian lasted just 20 games in the NBA.

I generally agree, but I also think Brad Stevens’ (never saw him leaving) and Billy Donovan’s recent successes have changed that perception a bit.

Third four-star recruit of the class... nice recruiting! (Damn it!) "UConn assistant Kenya Hunter was the lead recruiter for Hawkins, who said he also considered Maryland and Seton Hall, among others. He is four-star prospect ranked as the No. 11 shooting guard in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports.com." Hunter is putting in the work to get guys out of the DMV to play elsewhere. Hopefully GU will lockdown this area soon, to keep as many DMV recruits to stay here and play under Ewing going forward.

Hate to say it but UConn might be a Top 15 team in ‘21-‘22. I guess the only thing is Hurley has proven he can recruit now but can he coach in a bigger conference.
I know many UConn fans who are thrilled with their roster but they also questioned some of his in-game moves these last few years.

I think BE teams wearing BLM emblems on their uniforms is a very bad idea. Despite Val Ackerman’s note that it is not political or ideology, it is. To many people, a BLM patch is a reference to the Black Lives Matter movement and its demonstrations. To others it is also a reference to the riots, property damage, and physical harm to other humans all imposed by those who use the well-intentioned BLM demonstrations for their own purposes. BLM is also the symbol of the organization, Black Lives Matter, which, among other things, advocates “disrupting the Western prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another…”. Straight out of Marx. The BLM organization also advocates defunding the police. These are the things some (including me) will see when they see BLM patches on Big East uniforms. I think this is not constructive. And, finally, if a player objects, will he/she be allowed to opt out? Sounds like, not.

“A riot is the language of the unheard” - Dr. Martin Luther King. Entrenched racism and oppression of people of color in America is what you should be worried about.
A patch is the least that the BE conference should do.
