The JDL DMR Invitational will take place in Winston-Salem tomorrow evening. The men will be trying to get a time that will qualify for the NCAA indoor champs.
The lineup:
1 Washington A 9:28.14 2 BYU A 9:30.14 3 Georgetown A 9:33.06 4 Arkansas A 9:33.97 5 North Carolina A 9:34.00 6 Virginia Tech A 9:37.98 7 Penn State A 9:40.00 8 Virginia A 9:45.55
The Hoya runners will probably be Matt Payamps on the 1200m leg, Ruach Padhal or Lawrence Leake on the 400m, Kenny Rowe running the 800m, and Spencer Brown on the anchor (1600m) leg.

Does Georgetown A suggest that there is also a Georgetown B?
Matt Payamps ran a great 2:55 split in the 1200 leg at the Indiana Relays but Nick might get the nod because of his senority and his heroics last year? I believe that NIck was sick for Indiana but he has raced two one miles since...he looked good in Boston @ 4:05...third times the charm...
Theo, Maazim and Tristan have also had some nice races recently, Theo probably the 800/1200 guy and Maz and Tristan at 1200/1600....they would make a fast B team.
The key to a fast time in the DMR is the 1600; the Hoyas need the 4:01 that Spencer ran in Boston...
Looking forward to the results report!

It looks as if Kenny Rowe will not run (sick or injured???):
7:30 p.m. - Distance medley relay (Matthew Payamps, Lawrence Leake, Ruach Padhal, Spencer Brown)
No indication of a GU B team.

The worse of all possible outcomes.

Unfortunately, we lost three seconds to the field on the 1200 leg and could not catch up. The 400m and 800m were par with the others and Spencer was 7th fastest of 8 on the 1600m leg. So the Hoyas will have to go with their previous 9:41 mark (which would have been fourth here).

I am wondering if Matt fell on his leadoff leg. He ran seven sec slower than his previous DMR leg.

Further detail on your posts about splits (for others who might not have seen them): Payamps 3:02.506 (3:02.506) Leake 48.148 (3:50.654) Padhal 1:51.835 (5:42.489) Brown 4:06.044 (9:48.533) I'm an idiot and missed your post with these exact splits, taken from the same exact source. Sorry for cluttering the thread; it was early.

Does our 9:41 have any chance. I can't remember us not making the NCAA DMR.

Does our 9:41 have any chance. I can't remember us not making the NCAA DMR. Our chances are looking pretty slim after the men's DMR at the Alex Wilson meet: 1 Notre Dame A F 9:25.80 2 Wisconsin A F 9:25.84 3 Indiana A 9:27.72 4 Minnesota A 9:31.52 5 UCLA A 9:32.14 6 Stanford A 9:32.42 7 Michigan A 9:36.46 The times were on an oversized track, but still much faster than the Hoyas 9:41. The first two times are the fastest collegiate times ever on an oversized track.

Friday's time has been converted to 9:40.66 and sits 21st nationally (there are two "B" times ahead of the Hoyas, so they are 19th for qualification).

How many teams get to go? I saw the women were 14th I think--is it top 12? 18?
Do we have a chance for any individual qualifiers

Wonder if we'd take a few athletes out of the BE meet to try a last chance meet somewhere else.
I can't remember us being completely shut out of the NCAA meet. I guess the women did not have any entries last year which I understand can happen occasionally, though would not think its a good look for both squads to be shut out and for the women to miss in multiple years.

I guess reading from the guhoyas link we will be content to try and run well at the Big East
At least according to form both men and women should make the dmr next year. Men I guess have a lot of choices in the 400-1200 legs
I guess whether either team will be competitive for a podium finish will depend on the individual improvement of both payamps(maybe ahmed) and corman--both should improve but are not yet at the point where they are fast enough at the 1600 to make the team a real contender
Culley implied I think in the GUHOYAS article that coming close to making the meet is a big accomplishment. While the women competed well and men had some bad luck it should be pretty much the norm to make the meet in the DMR and more often than not be very competitive for a podium finish given the schools history in the event and resources that are put into track generally and middle distances specifically.
