Who's our 1 in a box and 1? Pickett? Mosely Diallo is a good player, a senior who will get his points. But unless it is part of some larger game strategy I don't think he deserves a box and 1. He's not some ultra-dangerous scorer.

Wait, what? He's telling Ighoefe that he's going to replace Mac or Yurtseven in the starting lineup? That was from last week Thursday before the Butler game. It’s not a perfect metaphor, but Ewing was just saying that Tim needed to be ready to play and that he was capable of playing well. Yeah, that's not the point of the Wally Pipp story in popular culture at all. The point of the Wally Pipp story is that you can be good and be replaced by someone better if you even miss one day. The popular version of it is that Wally Pipp had a headache and didn't gut it out or whatever and was replaced by HOF Lou Gehrig who played day in and day out for 2,130 games, in retrospect, Pipp probably had a concussion from being beaned. It's kind of a ghoulish metaphor, when you consider what we know about CTE now. There just happen to be two players on Georgetown that are injured. I don't know if Ewing meant it that Tim needed to play through whatever he himself is going through or Malcolm would replace him, or whether he meant that McClung and Yurtsevens jobs were up for grab, but the point of that story is not "hey you should be ready i know you have it in you".

For the season, he shoots 29.4% from 3 and 58.8% from the FT line. After going 5-5 from 3 against Seton Hall, Diallo will probably come back to earth tonight. In any case, he's definitely not worthy of a gimmicky box-in-one defensive strategy.

Well, I said it's not a perfect metaphor, but isn't that essentially what Ewing was trying to tell Tim in order to make him more confident? Bench players sometimes have the potential to replace the starter when given the opportunity. Even though Tim is a bench player, he doesn't have to play like a bench player. It's essentially a more specific example of "next man up" that Ewing keeps repeating. I think you're taking what was meant to be coach speak/confidence building too literally.

I only posted the quote because there was a question of whether Q was in a boot and which, were it true, would have meant 7, Mac and Q would be questionable for tonight's game and Tim would be the next man up.

Don’t disagree one bit. I was just answering the hypothetical question. I have no idea how it relates to Providence. Marquette is the team to go box and 1 against

If nothing else, it’s progress in the right direction. Encouraging. Would be good to get him a few minutes tonight, a few more on Saturday, and have him back full for the final 4-game stretch.
