And Melissa will also run for the track and field team. Why is a runner playing defense? Get her up in the attack!!😉😁

Get her up in the attack!!😉😁 Definitely a fun innovation of modern soccer - outside backs with track star speed, able to keep up with #10s and #9s and also to play up in the attack, then quickly recover back as needed. Your average defensive midfielder, and even some other midfielders, is now probably slower on average than the outside backs!

Emily only ran for one or two years at Georgetown, then concentrated on soccer.

From the Portland Oregonian: "The Portland Thorns announced on Thursday they re-signed defender Emily Menges to a three-year contract. Menges, 28, will begin her 8th season with the Thorns in 2021. She ranks second all-time in games played (117), games started (116) and minutes played (10,334) for the Thorns. She is one of only two players to play in more than 100 games and log more than 10,000 minutes with Portland. 'Emily continues to evolve as a center back, exhibiting consistent quality in possession and a commitment to shutting down every team we play,' Thorns coach Mark Parsons said in a news release. 'She is a caring person, exceptional teammate and selfless leader who has been key to our success and will play a critical role in our future.'"
I have had so much fun watching Emily over the years, she is an indispensable player for the Thorns and a wonderful representative for GU!
