Bracket Matrix has dropped the Hoyas from 5th to 6th team out, in 10 of 91 brackets (11%).
9 seed: Purdue loss vs. Penn St. (doubly need this for SOS purposes) 9 seed: Arkansas loss at Tennessee 9 seed: URI loss at Dayton Last team in: UVA win vs. ND 2nd team out: Miss St. loss at Ole Miss 5th team out: Utah St. win at Colorado St.
OOC: Syracuse loss vs. NC State (both teams further off the bubble but still within striking range of the cutline) OK St. win at Kansas St.

Win the next 3, and we’ll be in most every bracket.

Win the next 3, and we’ll be in most every bracket. We win at butler and we’ll get in half the brackets. Our computer numbers will be too good.

Passes like this led to an NC State win over Syracuse.

Mostly got a lot of help again from the bubble. This week of being idle and letting other bubble teams accumulate losses has been beneficial thus far.

Mostly got a lot of help again from the bubble. This week of being idle and letting other bubble teams accumulate losses has been beneficial thus far. Not playing is our new best strategy. Let’s hope for more good fortune tonight. As far as what we can control, I do think this upcoming game remains our best shot at a Q1 victory. Tough to see us winning at Creighton or Marquette and/or home vs Nova. The path to 8-10 has little margin for error and while the chances aren’t officially dead until we get our 10th conference loss, the team will have to be lucky and good to get there without a win Saturday. Given the weaknesses in a lot of conferences this year, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some bid stealing happening in these conference tournaments. I think it’ll be important for us to position ourselves better than Xavier as I don’t think there’s room for us both.

I'm more and more in the camp that if this team can scrape together 8-10, they will find a way in. I've seen that 11 Q1+Q2 wins seems to get you in, and we'll get there with 4-3 rest of the way.

The ESPN take: www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28577356/ncaa-tournament-bubble-watch-updated-look-wildest-bubble-yearsGeorgetown Hoyas The Hoyas are still lurking in the bubble picture (albeit outside the projected field), but the schedule is running out of patience with this bunch. Patrick Ewing's men have hosted Marquette, Butler and Seton Hall over the past month and come away with an 0-3 record. Now Georgetown is 4-7 in conference play and trying to make a push with what on paper is the worst defense in the Big East. The next game's at Butler, and a win there would breathe life into a profile that's in danger of becoming an afterthought. Perhaps Jahvon Blair, he of the 30 points against Providence, can help provide the necessary resuscitation.

I agree. I meant to say anything after our 10th conference loss. 4-3 and a decent showing at MSG (meaning winning the 7/10 game or a good showing against the 3 seed) has us right there.

Watched first half of URI-Dayton game just to see how good Dayton really is and how well Walker is doing. Dayton is very good, especially defensively. Totally controlled Fats Russell. Walker seems to be used mainly to set picks, rebound, and play defense. I was very impressed with his defense. Very active and in your face. Much more so than he who won't be named here.

This SJU result could be huge for our shot to finish top 6 and avoid Wed in NYC.

Wow is Providence bad! How did we get mauled by this trash? They are awful on both ends...awful. SJU has been, well, SJU, and they are smacking Provy.
What a Dumboff - just horrid basketball. SJU trying desperately to give the game away and Provy won’t take it. Two really awful teams IMO.

A lot has gone right this week. Now all we have to do is take care of our end of the bargain on Saturday.

St Johns beat Arizona (in Glendale I think) and West Virginia. Providence also won @ Butler, @marquette and beat Creighton.

I think what watching other games (part in BE) drives home for me is how bad our defense still is. You watch PC and SJU, both of whom play decent defense, and you come away thinking you’ve just seen the world’s worst display of off b-ball, because PC has more TOs than FGs and SJU does literally everything wrong in the last five minutes, from fouling to shooting early in the clock to botching the press break on 4 consecutive possessions. I really do think these are poor teams, but it drives home once again how dreadful our defense is, because we can make complete slop look pretty good. Actually makes me feel way better about our team next year and beyond, because you don’t have to be terribly talented to improve defensively. You have to be committed, consistent and have a reasonably high hoops IQ. We need Mac to buy in defensively and Pickett to play smarter (not make shots but cut down on really stupid mistakes on both ends). There is tons of room for growth on that front.

I guess I’m less optimistic because aren’t we losing our best defenders in Jagan and Allen next year and they have been playing basically 80 minutes a game.

We are not going to be better next year unless we land more key recruits. We are losing talent and more importantly experience.

Definitely need more talent, and experience, at the 3-4 positions. A JC transfer would really help. But Mac and Jahvon will bring some needed experience as will Wahab. Curious to see how he develops over the next month. He will get tons of experience and can really have a breakout game or two in the BE tourney.
